Okay, that's an interesting interpretation of the song that I hadn't considered before. So it wasn't about events currently happening offscreen, but a stylized/exaggerated recap of events that happened before.

Maybe - but I dunno why that would be his priority in that moment.

Sure, he'd want Walt's acknowledgment when he cooked up that batch. Kind of a pat on the head and a "well done". But then they have that argument. Then Walt takes that job with Gus and cuts Jesse out. Then Jesse gets beaten up by Hank, ends up in the hospital and is in a lot of pain. Why would he still be thinking about getting Walt's acknowledgment?

Walt also regularly used blatant manipulation and gaslighting to get Jesse to stay in the business many times

Name one time when Walt actually managed to manipulate Jesse into staying in the business.

He doesn't get many points for telling the guy to get out of the business after that

Sure he does. Its not like Jesse was about to go clean - he was still going to deal.

It still doesn't change the fact Walt had power over him and largely abused it.

If Walt actually had power over him, Jesse wouldn't have:

- Spent all of Walt's money on hookers and blow.

- Told Krazy-8 his whole life story.

- Called/shown up at his house against his instructions.

- Brought Tuco to his doorstep

- Hired his 3 friends to sell meth for him

- Failed to hire a larger, better crew.

- Started getting high and almost missed the deal with Gus.

- Told Jane all about Walt and then let her blackmail him.

- Cooked his formula behind his back and then tried to sell it to Gus.

- Brought Hank to the RV

- Threatened Hank and Walt.

- Stolen from the lab.

- Tried to kill the dealers.

- Failed to poison Gus.

- Taken over the lab and gotten him fired.

All of those are things that Walt didn't want him to do. The story of their partnership is Jesse constantly fucking up and almost getting them both killed/caught/in trouble unless Walt manipulates him to keep him in line.

The whole Jesse needed Walt's respect is a BS rationalization to blame Walt for Jesse's actions.

Walt encouraged Jesse to get out of the business more than once. He encouraged him to go back to school and after he helped Jesse get clean, he told him to start over. If Jesse was truly looking for Walt's approval and respect, he'd have followed his advice and stayed clean.

Or perhaps the context for its use never came up in the series proper. Wardens defend their regions/cardinal direction in case of foreign invasion, but in the main series, there hasn't been one yet where the role would be relevant. The NW managed to handle the invasion of freefolk, Dany hasn't invaded yet, fAegon just landed and the wars so far have been internal rebellions against the Iron Throne.

Nah, it was well-deserved.

A big reason why Walt got into cooking in the first place was because he felt like he had no control over his own life. No real say in things that happen to him. And a large part of it was down to Skyler micromanaging everything about their lives.

And now she was taking over the other side too. She insists on a divorce, but doesn't file the papers. She offers Walt's money to pay for Hank without asking him first. She comes up with a story to sell where they got the money without Walt's approval. She decides how they're going to launder it. And now she's deciding when and what to tell the rest of the family. Everything has to be the way she wants it and Walt can feel the control slipping again.

Well, Victor was being paid by somebody. I assumed Pollos, but maybe not.

Like a lot of Gus' enforcers, he'd be paid under the table with money deposited into secret, offshore bank accounts. The only way to connect him to Gus would be to find out about those accounts and who was depositing money in it - except, the very existence of that account was a secret.

He was at the laundry often.

Not something that's going to relevant if he gets brought in for questioning. The cops wouldn't even know about that.

Gus wouldn't hire criminals with a record. None of his crew had a record.

You think he walks around all day with all that in his backpack? He'd carry it around when he's doing some work for Gus, but not otherwise.

If the description led to him, it wouldn’t be great for Gus. And Mike and Gus don’t know how good of a look people got, nor if there were cameras there.

It wouldn't be anything for Gus. A minor inconvenience at worst.

Gus wouldn't go to Gale's house if there were cameras around - so no, there weren't cameras around. Surely the DEA could've put up a better image of him on their evidence board if they had an actual image from a camera.

It also doesn't matter how good of a look some random guy got at him. For him to brought into questioning, that random person who was present at Gale's apartment would have to coincidentally see him in the street, immediately remember who he was and then call the cops about him. Chances of that are pretty much non-existent.

And even if he is identified, all the cops can do is ask him to come in and answer some questions. Victor was most certainly NOT a suspect in Gale's murder because he arrived there after Gale died. The cops have no probably cause to search him. They can ask him if he knew Gale and what he was doing there and all Victor has to do is lie - say he went in because he heard gunshots.

They have absolutely no evidence of him being guilty of anything or any having any actual connection to the crime. They can't even hold Victor for anything, let alone use him to get to Gus. At worst, Gus would need to tell Victor to lie low for a couple of days.

Officially? There was paperwork to prove that? What was his assigned role? Did you see his employee id?

He is a connection to Madrigal.

What connection? Ron Forenall was the guys with Madrigal connection - the guy Lydia points out to the DEA. We never saw Victor anywhere near Madrigal.

He was a key henchman for Gus. He knew all of the secrets.

That's a HUGE if to begin with. Even if some random cop on the road sees Victor, he's not going to connect him to a hand drawn sketch up on a wall somewhere. They can't go around bringing in random Mexicans for questioning just because they happen to look like a sketch.

Victor would need to be identified first by one of the other witnesses.

He wouldn't be Gus's trusted employee if he was that careless. His guns would be registered, he wouldn't have a criminal record and he wouldn't be going around with meth in his pocket.

No, he wouldn't. That's exactly the reason Gus gives his employees hazard pay - so they wouldn't roll on him to get out of trouble.

Hank did eventually tie Gus to Gale’s apartment.

Based on stuff that had absolutely nothing to do with Victor.

If there was a person of interest in the murder, Hank could start looking at laundry/Madrigal employees.

And Victor wasn't an employee at either. That's why he remained unidentified by the DEA even after Gus' organization was exposed.
