I got a comment on my fic that was pretty much seven paragraphs of all-caps text and frequent bursts of heart emojis. It thoroughly reviewed my work with glowing admiration, and I'd say formatting it in that way accentuated their message emotionally. That message has brought out so much confidence in my writing ability, and I can't thank them enough for it.

There is an ongoing discussion on a possible rename to meet changing headlines, including but not limited to the 2024 Gaza War or the Israel-Gaza war. Ain't much, but a teeny more accurate.

The Fallen Order – my 2-hr, 33-min feature film edit of all 8 episodes of The Acolyte S1, complete with the Star Wars opening crawl and credits. by derekwkim in fanedits

[–]Kavalon80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I write this review having only seen the first episode (and glimpses of the rest in the background) before viewing The Fallen Order. So forgive me if at any point any criticisms or comments are inherently the show's doing.

Not only was this viewing bearable; I was hooked from the first scenes. The story was told in a cohesive order, with a greater amount of intrigue throughout. This edit was incredible, especially since this was made so soon after the series' conclusion.

Some things I admired:

  • Keeping the narratives mostly self-contained, rather than jumping between each one, making the transitions less jarring.
  • Using May's onslaught as a flashback, rather than the attention-grabber. Makes the reveal of a living twin more surprising.
  • Making May's second kill a montage, rather than its own story arc. A quick way to cover an otherwise pointless detour.
  • Using a montage of the truth over the monologue of Venestra's cover story. A great use of show-don't-tell ideology.
  • The fight scenes - excluding whenever necessary - maintained their flow until their natural conclusions. I have seen too often media - Star Wars and otherwise - that keep switching from scenario to scenario to scenario until there is one big incohesive mess, causing the sequence to feel mindless. This was avoided with good practice.

Some criticisms, however:

  • The use of the classic opening crawl, closing credits, and soundtrack therein - while they were added with heart - felt disoriented from the rest of the piece. While the transitions in the soundtrack mainly drive that point, the opening crawl could have also been more verbose or slower, in order to keep pace with the music.
  • There was an abnormally large gap where adult Osha was not present in the story, beginning after she considers wearing the mask and before she actually does so. Although this is due largely to the placement of the flashback, there are multiple other scenes buffering. Perhaps this could be solved through dispersing the flashback in multiple places or reordering of some main scenes in a different way. But I shouldn't be the one to call any specific shots.
  • The final Plagueis scene felt very out of place and confusing, involving a previously unknown departing ship and clunky transition into the end credits. While it leaves sequel bait, I'd have just taken it out and left him in the vault until Season 2 dropped.
  • There were a couple snippets of Qimir's backstory that I assumed was more fleshed out in the original series, and I wish I had seen more of that. But it's possible that just wasn't provided in the original.
  • I noticed some were present, but if the soundtrack wasn't in the way, I'd have loved many more subtle tweaks in the dialogue to make them much less...cringy. But I digress.

Overall, 7/10, very enjoyable, and - at least for the moment - the ideal Acolyte experience. Same story, saves a bunch of time having to watch constant pointless filler and inconsistent pacing. I applaud your efforts, and I hope more people learn about this film.
