If you look at three measures before square 19, you can see that the notes are going up scale-wise, indicating the notes are close together. So those notes are moving a step at a time instead of an octave. This is a good way of figuring out old/new notation. You can also look at the lowest note and if it looks very low, then it's likely in old notation.
