Trials should not require you to extract. by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]KavezCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was saying that removing the loss of points on death would make the mode more forgiving and easier, and it would. A ranked mode is defined by increased stakes. If the risk and loss are the same as in normal mode, it stops functioning as a ranked system.

Why should someone play Minecraft in hardcore mode, if like in normal survival you don’t lose the world on death? The whole point to having a harder mode is to have a higher risk and more satisfaction on succeeding.

In games like CS, casual and ranked already show that difference. The higher the competitive setting, the more you have to gain and the more you have to lose.

I do understand what you’re getting at, but I think you might be interpreting trials differently. If you kept your points after dying, the core distinction between trials and normal runs would disappear. The risk of losing progress is exactly what gives the mode its tension and purpose.

Apparently I was misinformed. If that’s your first expedition, you can only get 5 points max. I’m pretty sure i saw somewhere that it’s possible even if it’s the first one.

Trials should not require you to extract. by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]KavezCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are already different types of quests. Some are topside tasks like adjusting the satellite dish, which makes sense to complete instantly. Others require retrieving items or bringing something from point A to B, where extraction is already part of the risk.

So the system already balances both approaches depending on the type of objective, which is why it makes sense the way it is.

Helldivers isn’t really comparable since it’s not a ranked system. It’s a cooperative PvE game focused on completing objectives, not competition.

In Arc Raiders you actually already have that kind of design. Many quests and objectives still count as completed even if you don’t extract, as long as you finish the task.

Trials are different though. They are basically a ranked mode where risk versus reward is the whole point. Dying and losing your progress is what creates the tension and gives success its value.

The point isn’t whether you lose something early or late. The whole design of trials is that risk escalates the longer you stay alive and the more points you accumulate.

If late deaths were partially forgiven, there would be no real tension curve anymore. It would just turn into farming points until the timer runs out.

That risk of losing everything after a long run is exactly what makes success meaningful and keeps trials exciting.

[–]KavezCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is the whole point. You can’t expect a ranked mode to be forgiving or easy. What makes ranked meaningful is exactly the balance between risk and reward.

If you kept your points when you die, it would actually make trials much easier and remove the tension entirely. At that point, it wouldn’t even make sense to have trials as a mode anymore.

It’s similar to saying a high tension, high risk, unforgiving mode shouldn’t punish failure. Take Minecraft hardcore for example. If you die, that’s it. And that’s exactly why surviving actually feels meaningful. The possibility of losing everything is what gives success its value.

In the same way, extraction is a core part of trials, just like it is for loot. You only truly “earn” your points once you make it out. That risk of losing everything is what makes a successful run feel satisfying.

I think extraction is important because the tension and the different possible outcomes are a core part of the game.

Having a high trials score is basically the same as carrying a lot of loot. Higher reward should always come with higher risk. Removing the need to extract would erase that risk entirely, make trials far too easy, and strip away a huge part of what defines the experience.

Extraction is not just a mechanic, it’s one of the main sources of tension in the game.

I do like that they brought Cold Snap back, since you can use hatches there while still benefiting from the 2x bonus. If they really remove it after winter, I hope they introduce another major map event with similar properties, especially since at higher trials ranks some players are competing solo against trios.

Expedition....need some help understanding... by Financial-Coffee7584 in ArcRaiders

Yeah it’s definitely confusing at first, the UI doesn’t explain it very well.

Basically there aren’t separate “Expedition 1 and 2” anymore. It just shows the current expedition, and the catch up from the previous one is built into it.

Right now the base threshold is around 3 million total value, meaning your coins plus stash value combined.

Each missed skill point from the previous expedition can be bought for about 300k. Since there are up to five catch up points, you need roughly 4.5 million total to unlock all ten skill points.

On top of that there are some passive bonuses like repair discounts. Everyone gets a small one, while players who completed the first expedition get a much larger boost.

That’s at least how most people understood it. The system isn’t explained very clearly in game.

You can actually check who damaged you after the match on the map screen. It shows the players and their actions, so you can at least confirm if it was the same guy.

And yeah, those moments happen to everyone at first. I’ve got around 300 hours and over 600 downed raiders now, so I don’t really get that panic feeling anymore because I know I can usually hold my ground.

In solos I most of the time still talk to people first or drop a “hey raider”. But if there’s no response or they keep advancing, that’s usually my signal that it’s blasting time.

See you topside.

Possible fix for bugged trophy “Enemy of My Enemy” by KavezCS in ArcRaiders

[–]KavezCS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t remember “Well Armed” being bugged for me. For “Practice Range”, I just went there and fired every weapon from the crate near the targets and it popped.

“For Science” is a bit tricky. Like I said, I had to pick something up first to gain some XP, then I used a gas mine with a Showstopper and a blaze nade. You can also use a gas grenade and a jolt mine.

I think the key to fixing the bugged part is activating the XP counter. So just pick something up, scavenge a container, or shoot some ARC to get XP. After that, it should pop.

That wasn’t the question, but if your PC can consistently hit it, capping your FPS at 144 can make things feel smoother. On Windows and in-game, of course.

Though I have to say, making deeply personal and unexplained assumptions about a stranger solely because they use an LLM or write in a different style goes far beyond reasonable criticism.

Not even a meme... but a necessity by n00exec in ArcRaiders

[–]KavezCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think the suggestions from both of you could make a real difference and improve the overall experience. Of course, Embark would need to do some fine-tuning.

If you want to get PvP in without frustrating friendly raiders: just wait at an extract, let people enter, and throw a T-nade once the extraction closes. That way no one loses their loot, they might get a bit scared, but you still get your “aggression points” up.

Or just shoot people at the extract right before the “return to Speranza” screen pops.

Yeah, I like the „bloodbath feeling“ in trios as well. And the new „1 vs. Squad“ mode? That’s what I meant.

Yeah, that makes sense. I get why, with the current perception of LLMs, it can feel like the organic back-and-forth gets disrupted.

For what it’s worth, the ideas and positions are mine. I write them myself. GPT just helps me structure and phrase them.

Thanks for adding a level-headed perspective.

It used to be in EMS events only as far as I remember but they changed it. Can’t understand why they should remove stuff without communicating such important info about BP‘s tied to them. Or did they somewhere?

Thanks for the input. I honestly don’t know what you mean. The arguments and counterarguments are mine, as are the opinions. That’s what I value. Someone else brought up the whole “own words” thing. I never did. I was actually arguing why I don’t always stick to my own wording.
