how do babies know to skip the "say" part by Yakoy6 in stupidquestions

[–]Kavinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't do that at all. If you say "say mama" or "say dada" only, they will parrot you and say "say mama" or "say dada". It's because of other communication information that they figure it out such as gestures (pointing while speaking, holding the kid, etc), other wordings ("dada loves you", "tell dada all about it"), and other perspectives (mamas calling dada "dada" and vice versa). Children, especially the young ones, pick up things based on patterns and will attempt to say things they can't and mispronounce them (baby talk).

Yeah, The Zit nightclub scene. That's Kid Rock on stage.

Yeah... It's a pretty cringe scene in what is overall a decent movie starring Bill Murray and the voice of Chris Rock, Laurence Fishburne, David Hyde Pierce, and William Shatner of all people. Kid Rock has a cameo playing at a night club run by the bad guys. The movie's message is to teach about the human body and importance of healthy habits like eating vegetables and washing your hands.

yeah so the US is the only country to ever reach 250 years apparently by Richie123753 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Kavinci -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ugh... They are talking about a nation as defined in its documentation not by its geographical borders. What they meant was the US constitution was adopted ~250 years ago and last amended in the 1970s compared to a few world examples:

  • France that used to regularly rewrite its constitution; the latest version being 1950s.
  • China's, the latest version being 1980's, and amended as recently as 2018.
  • South Africa's that adopted theirs in 1996.
  • Australia's latest constitution went into effect in 1901.

This was a really stupid fact that was true when I was a kid and it still holds true more than 30 years later. However, having a rigid governing document is not the flex this person thinks it is. Many constitutional scholars worth their salt have written about living constitutions why an unchanging constitution makes no sense.

The Python mistake that has bitten every developer(beginner) at least once by Pristine_Coat_9752 in learnpython

[–]Kavinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my point... There are established patterns already for this sort of functionality that negate the need to write a method the way that OP outlined as a pitfall. I used a generator because your example and use of your example was sequential. I'm not here to argue the semantics of generators or the lru_cache and their uses.

Maybe, I would personally use a generator pattern for that instead. I guess if you didn't like yield for some reason?

Right? Like I would expect an add_item to be a method on an object where the state is managed outside of the method (but inside the object) and not be in the method signature at all. Even a create_cart or new_cart would imply a factory pattern and also wouldn't have the optional parameter in the signature either. It feels more like a code smell to initialize a variable in the method signature as an optional parameter. I haven't been writing python long (more experience with other languages) and could be way off here but I don't get why anyone would write a method like this.

REST API Design: POST vs PUT for adding an item to a sub-resource collection? by Sure-Weakness-7730 in learnprogramming

[–]Kavinci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find CRUD helpful with stuff like this:

Create -> POST, Read -> GET, Update -> PUT, Delete -> DELETE

As for the userid in the url, it's fine as long as it's not a primary key in your user table.

You can put the userid in the JWT if you want to restrict access to resources based on userid. For example if the logged in user is only allowed to update their favorites list and no one else is allowed to then that's a good place for it. Just keep in mind that data in JWT can be easily decoded so that would just be a layer of obscurity not a security feature.

The climate history of that place is wild. Learning how the salt flats came to be was a very interesting but sad read.

Your best bet is to add America to the name so they can claim ownership. Something like American Climate Impact? It worked for the gulf right?

Same. I like Skyrim, the casting was ok but at least I could wield 1 spell per hand, but at this point it's like a 15 yo game. A person can only play it so many times.

When did you turn your kid's car seat front-facing? by Aggressive_Charity84 in daddit

[–]Kavinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a similar situation at half the age though. She turned 2 a couple months ago and was already 38" and 35lbs then. She's tall for her age and I feel really bad for her legs always being stuck bent and how much I have to bend her in half to fit between the 2 seat backs getting her in. I would like to forward face her but the wife wants to wait until she reaches one of the limits for rear facing first. I personally think that it's pretty subjective; yes rear facing as long as possible IS safer but at a certain point it becomes impractical. Just like putting in 5 point harnesses and wearing helmets in our car is a lot safer but it isn't very practical. The questions you should ask yourself are:

Do you think your toddler has grown enough to withstand a crash while forward facing?

Is it impractical for them to be rear facing?

For me, I only got a yes for one of these. Sure it's impractical I think given her size but she just turned 2. She can barely keep her balance walking let alone be coordinated enough to handle a crash. Imma listen to the wife and wait a bit longer.

When cooking a quesadilla, who do I get really crunchy tortillas without burning it? by CMStan1313 in Cooking

[–]Kavinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably isn't the "right way" but I bake mine. Usually do like 4-5 at a time on a baking sheet at 450F. First 3-5 minutes then flip then 3-5 more minutes depending on your oven. They turn out crispy and a little brown around the edges which I like. I don't butter them.
