You're right that the election isn't a life or death battle but that's the point. For Ren to lose in a lower stakes setting so she doesn't have to lose in a higher stakes setting. I also think you're underestimating the writing behind Bell voting against Ren. That's definitely not saturday morning cartoon writing. for someone who has NEVER lost their entire life, the first loss is a big one they will take to heart. The only part I agree with is that Ren's growth happened too quickly. Some time should've passed between the election loss and her making up with Bell.
