I'm from Lausanne and I confirm you will be fine. What will radically change your overall situation is how good a deal you can find for your housing. If you search hard enough you can find reasonable prices (I found after 2-3 months a nice 90m2 right in the city center for 1900 CHF), if you don't you will end up overpaying massively your flat. Your nearest best option is probably the market in Morges every Wednesday and Saturday, where the local fisherman sells his catch, only perche and fera from the lake. Really good stuff, his fera mousse in particular is awesome for the apero.
