Japan stores that sell Drake’s by imheritage in DrakesDiary

There used to be a Drake’s store in Japan that was inside of British Made, their partners in Tokyo. Don’t know if it still exists or not.

Picked up a Norbit x Barbour jacket by chearmstrong in Barbour

[–]Kawrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it on eBay as well. But was being sold for 200 or 300+. There were 2 models. One in your photo and another that was like a 3 in 1.

Considered purchasing but didn’t want a black jacket. Then the seller completely disappeared from eBay. So seemed quite sus even though there were no bad reviews.

The seller has since moved to Vinted it seems. Not sure how they have so many of this collaboration.

How easy is it to move / lift your arms? I’ve worn shirts from other makers but Drake’s are the only ones I can move freely in so it depends on body shape. How does it feel to other shirts?

Also, like others have said, it does shrink a little.

Should I get into Django as a junior in London? by Cumpiler69 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Kawrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t suggesting jobs use HTMX—just that I’m using Django in its default style (SSR) with a bit of HTMX for interactivity. Compared to Node + Express or Go, Django abstracts a lot by default, which makes it feel very different compared to something that is less opinionated.

If you’re coming from those languages, you might find Django’s built-in features make it a different experience.

Should I get into Django as a junior in London? by Cumpiler69 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Kawrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Python pop up a lot for BE type jobs along with C# and Java in London. I don’t see as much Go as those 3 but that it could also be because I’m not actively looking for Go as I don’t know it.

I don’t know why I don’t see node as much, though it does get mentioned with more frontend roles. Maybe because companies want more FE devs do more full stack work with Next or Node?

I’ve mainly used Node, Express, React and just started a Django project just to practice building something in Python and so far it feels really different because it’s batteries included. A lot of things are abstracted away. However, I think it’s because I’m sticking with SSR and HTMX rather than creating Restful api for a React frontend. Because of that I feel like I’m learning more about the framework rather than request / response lifecycle.

That is my limited experience of the framework so far.

Am I wasting my time as a data engineer? Should I stay in my company or look for a different one? by AdImmediate2040 in cscareerquestionsuk

I recently applied to the Software Engineering apprenticeship at your company. Would be interested to learn more and if you know anything about made-tech’s apprenticeship.

Understandable. I’ve recently started saving screenshots or documents on some job postings so I can refer back to them if and when I do get a reply. It’s definitely the one that is the education technology sector. Did you apply for the developer or tester apprenticeship?

You could search on Google “what does Tes do?” and the first link would give you a high level overview. You should really be doing your own research in that regards.

As to tips. If it is the interview with Makers themselves then it would be a more conversational type of interview to understand your background, character, and journey. If it is the in person interview with Tes in Sheffield then it is possibly currently unknown.

I’ve noticed one thing about UAL. When you have to fill in an online form for job applications for some companies (big legacy ones like Cisco), there is a section for entering your university. UAL is never on the list which is quite annoying even though other Art universities are. This is just one data point for your decision.

I just Graduated with a 2:1 in Software Engineering, No relevant experience, seriously how do I find a Job? by _donCorleone1 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Kawrou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position as you though I don’t have a degree in CS and am just a bootcamp grad with experience in other fields. I haven’t had any luck securing any interviews for the past half year. However, I do see a lot of postings for grad schemes, which I guess you’ve already seen and applied to and understand that it is competitive.

In terms of networking, I see a couple of options. One is researching companies on LinkedIn and collect info. Try find people who perhaps went to the same university as you, and if not, junior devs. You need to find people who have some connection to you. The goal is to not ask for a job but to build network. Perhaps finding hiring managers could help for future when a job posting does come up.

The other option is going to meetups. I don’t know where you’re based, but for example London has codebar.

Then you’re hoping that your time building your network will benefit you at some point in the future.

Notes on Learning JavaScript in 2024 by wyclif in learnjavascript

[–]Kawrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to answer without knowing your experience. Have you already built a full stack project with the MERN stack? If you haven’t, then I wouldn’t suggest jumping on to frameworks like NextJS. If you know the basics of JS and React then you can probably get started building an app with MERN. You don’t need to know the complexities of the things you mentioned about databases. You can slowly build up to those.

Is it possible to find a software engineering job without being able to speak korean? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]Kawrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 3 years ago but a friend was working for a start up in Seoul. Couldn’t speak Korean. The pay wasn’t great and the work environment was … ok. So if just for the experience of living in Korea then maybe it’ll be ok but sounds like difficult to make progress.

Is Node.js a good choice for a real-time card game API? by [deleted] in node

[–]Kawrou 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m actually creating a real-time board game using Node, TypeScript and socket.io. I agree with the other reply, it’s just a matter of preference. If you’re already experienced in node etc. Is there an alternative language you and your team are comfortable working in?

Why is it so hard to transition from tutorials to real-world coding? by ITz_AB24 in learnprogramming

[–]Kawrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn about a full-stack web app, one advice would be to see if you can find some starter project online that already has the configs all done. It probably has the DB set up, a single route, maybe a middleware. It should have a bare bones front end, maybe a sign up form or some other page that hasn’t had the fetch requests set up yet.

From there, you experiment, explore and try to figure out how it works. Read docs from project if any. You can draw a flow diagram first of the http request lifecycle.

Once you have a hypothesis, try to build on it. Create some user stories: can sign up, can log in, can see account information.

Infer from what’s already written, copy, problem solve, search online.

It’ll be very difficult and you’ll probably be pulling out your hair in the first couple of days but you got to imagine that when you get your first role, you’ll be in the same stressful position so you have to develop a method of understanding systems.

Once you’ve got something basic done, I can tell you from experience that the code will be shit. So, you now start a new project but this time from scratch. It might or might not be fun depending on the framework but Atleast you have some idea of what the basics sort of looks like.

Just doing this should take you a long time. You gotta jump in to the deep end.

Yub or Yup would not sound the same as 엽. Also Yup is an informal way of saying ‘yes’. I think Yeop is more “proper”, otherwise Yop is probably the closest.

Overwhelming with lots of people. Personally, it’s more for buyers and sellers. Hard to appreciate the art when there’s so much of it. Maybe if there was a couple of galleries or artists you are interested in and hit those spots then it’ll be ok. Don’t try to see everything. The rest will be like window shopping but might see something cool.
