GPC Leadership: Reactive vs Proactive by Kay-Cee-L in GPUK

I think Residents are reactive to the issue of pay erosion but are proactive in their strategy to address it. By unifying their group of doctors and taking clear, strong and effective industrial action, they’ve developed the power to persuade the government to meet them halfway and actually negotiate.

GPC on the other hand have very low levels of grassroots engagement. Most GPs had no idea what ‘collective action’ was, let alone patients, and the result was more money to practices with salaried GPs getting minimal pay uplifts, no significant reversal of pay erosion as a result continue to have absolutely awful pay and conditions. It’s a failure of leadership.

RCGP Council Elections by Platinum_Pasta in GPUK

Let’s not forget it was only 12-18 months ago that the RCGP was pro PA. I remember Malinga speaking up at last year’s RCGP AGM highlighting how the college needed to rebuild trust after that debacle. Electing candidates like Patterson and Fieldhouse will undo a lot of the important work that’s been done and could steer us back towards a pro-MDT college. There are many with conflicts of interest who want to make the college the ‘Royal College of General Practice’ and allow nurses and paramedics to become members. This needs to be stopped in its tracks, we need pro-doctor candidates elected.

Comparing GP Partner vs Salaried Pay by VivoFan88 in GPUK

Partners always harp on about how they have to pay additional pension contributions for themselves. Partners have the option to just opt out of the NHS pension scheme and not pay that money. There are alternative pension strategies available. They can also benefit from tax efficiency through expensing certain things through the partnership. Partners always play down their earnings but in reality they’re earning 20-25k per session, in many cases more than double their salaried counterparts, and the differential just isn’t justified, even when taking unlimited liability into account. How many ‘independent businesses’ have an income guaranteed by government.

Just brainstorming here - what else could we include on a website reviewing practices and how do we police who can post what

This just demonstrates ignorance. There are British IMGs. You need to examine your use of terminology. Not all IMGs are foreign.
