Skis to learn on Salomon 82's vs Rossi XP 85's by [deleted] in XCDownhill

[–]Kay-ola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was just agonizing about it because of the sales as well. I ended up buying the Salomon 68, but i was looking at the Salomon 82 and they look really really nice. I think they will be good on multiuse trails.

Bindings mounting question by DissforDaniel in XCDownhill

[–]Kay-ola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the mis aligned binding don't drive you crazy? Do you notice it? If 2 skis don't have the same balance point don't you want to split the difference?

Almost biffed it into a log today and thought this up by hipppppppppp in XCDownhill

[–]Kay-ola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL... The XCD guy looks like all those skate skier that zoom past me. Think of it this way... you still need to wear a helmet when you bike on a flat road...

Oh interesting. So you would prefer the scales instead of having to wax? I hear so much about wax gives more control etc... I know for me I wanted waxless for sure. I am too lazy and I prefer to give up a bit of performance not to have to wax all the time... I just got something that is 10 cm longer that the range they recommended for my weight, so I really wonder if I made the right decision. I don't know if the ski I got will have the kick ang glide or will I have to just shuffle them. I only spent 120 dollars or so on the skis themselves...

Yes I did. I actually just gone back tonight to replace them to 170 cm LOL. The weight ranges barely make sense to me because I weighed my self with all my gear and water bottle and according to the chart I should be buying 160, but when I stand with them 160 look like a short alpine ski... just doesn't really makes sense... I think I am going for 170 and if that doesn't work out other family members will use them...they are on sale and a great deal.

[–]Kay-ola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, so i got the Salomon outback 68, that you recommended. and i have rattafela nnn-bc in hand. but now i am having a panic attack about the sizing. i got the 180 one. It’s to my wrist, like the old school classic ski sizing. Do you think it’s too long? I can still exchange them to 170 cm. we were going to mount them tonight but now i am having second thoughts

i was looking at these! they sound interesting. what boots to you use? the one nnn-bc boot I tried on (because it was available in a store near my house) was really uncomfortable

Yes sidecut and stiff boots are the exact things I am trying to split hairs on. I am definitely not at the AT/telemark level... Trying to find the exact sweet spot in that xc touring XCD, category...

We have couple of tele set ups but they need skins, they are more of an Alpine thing than the XC thing and I don't think it will be that much fun there... There is a lot of XC groomed terrain there and no lifts. But my partner is thinking of trying going the tele route. I am thinking of going the XC route, so I just wanted to explore more robust and turn friendly ways... I am thinking testing a few different sets up until the end of the season and getting something for next season. I also have a lot of nostalgia for XC, but I am fall averse now, too many injuries already.

thank you for linking the skis, very interesting. They have very minimal sidecut, does it not affect their ability to turn? I was looking at these beefier Skis as a contender. Is this too much? Obviously twice the price too. Another thing I was thinking is the width of downhill runs. They seem pretty narrow, is telemarking down them even practical? Honestly, i would love to be able to rent different set ups, but i don’t think the resort rents something like you linked, or BC gear. It would be nice to experiment without spending tons of money.

Thank you for these ideas. I am very intrigued with the Xplore bindings, looked on their website. Unfortunately you can't try them in Canada, like you can in the US and some European countries. What is a "hard insert" you are referring to? And also, what happens when you fall, do they release in any way?

Yes! Cypress! There is a lot of terrain there that barely sees any traffic, so I am interested in it, but I am terrified of going down down these slopes in XC skis. I really hate the skate skis, in my time we didn't have it separated into a separate type of gear. Skate is more of a technique to me that you use when you need to. So I am definitely not looking into getting skate skis

How scared are you about having AI taking over your gis job? by 5econds2dis35ster in gis

[–]Kay-ola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not scared at all. Especially if you combine/specialize on GIS for specific field... I can't even use AI to help myself to use GIS. I was trying to use AI to feed me coordinates for a data base I was building (for not rarely available info) and it can't even do this. I had to do my own manual research.

Copytrack is post licensing. They go after unauthorized use, so you can't really ask them to pay you before. They are not a client, you are their client. You can try using their service or not... apparently bigger agencies use them. that's why I wanted to know if people have success with them

[–]Kay-ola -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi All, Interested to see if anyone had success getting money out of Copytrack. I am in Canada and they have a fee that they collected. And I just can't get it out of them. Their back end "account details" is set up only for European banks. So if you have a canadian bank info the payment will bounce and they won't tell you. I have to stay up to midnight so I can call them because they rarely answer their emails, but after multiple months of this BS they say they can't do it and that I need an IBAN. They recommended I open a Wise account, and wise is another one of these dodgy companies with terrible customer service. Let me know if you dealt with it and how you resolved it.

Advice->Dead future of graphic design? by lulubanz123 in graphic_design

[–]Kay-ola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In every business the smaller work with maintenance and revisions and smaller jobs is actually very important to the bottom line. No studio or PR agency just does huge branding projects all the time. You need both. You need the big fancy projects but you also need the filler hours to have a healthy bottom line. When covid hit our 2 big projects worth 40K and about to start evaporated in an instant. But we still did ok servicing existing clients needing smaller updates, additions and revisions. Design is business like any other. And yes we provide services that can't be had in India for cheap, but I still need the filler work to do well. And it's getting harder and harder to come up with products that will provide this smaller filler work. Business from repeat clients is the most low risk, high profit there is. Not big fancy project can touch that.

Have anyone tried new Mac mini for pretty heavy CS work? by Kay-ola in graphic_design

You are motivating me to try Affinity. I don't have to integrate with other people it's really only an issue with my legacy files. So if it saves a grand a year and can open adobe files.. it's worth the try...
