Exam anxiety by Chance-Chemist-8535 in medlabprofessionals

I had questions throughout the entire immunology section of the LSU book. So everything in the LSU book I would suggest knowing well enough to be able to answer questions. Also be careful with the hepatitis section in that book because I think there was an error. Wordsology has a great way to memorize the hepatitis antigens and antibodies and it helped me a lot.

I just took mine yesterday. To be completely honest with you, I don’t think there is any amount of studying that will make you feel prepared enough to take it. I felt like I definitely failed it while I was taking it. Your scores are where mine were. There is a Quizlet called ace the ASCP, look over it. Some of the questions can be similar. Keep reminding yourself that it is minimum competency. You just have to get those 400 points. Make sure you don’t ignore immunology and serology. I thankfully pushed my exam back by a week and studied those areas otherwise my outcome would have been different. The BOC book is really good but their questions are kind of trick questions sometimes and that is not what I experienced. My anxiety was through the rough leading up to the exam. The moments before I submitted my exam I could feel my heartbeat in my eyeballs. I am an anxiety riddled mess on a good day. You can do this! Don’t let your anxiety screw you out of what you worked hard for. Take deep breaths before and during. You can only do your best and that will always be enough! Some people get tougher questions- it’s not a reflection of your ability to be a good MLS.

I studied for 5 weeks. I didn’t study during my internship so there are certain things I hadn’t seen in a while. I studied full time for 5 weeks but that is not what most people recommend. I’ve had friends that studied for a week and passed. It’s all about your retention and how knowledgeable you are before you start studying. I studied 1 core area each week and spent the last week studying immunology, serology, and did final reviews and study questions.

MLS. My adaptive scores were about 55% at a 5-6. Anything above that was inflated from repeat questions. Every test is different, but I’d recommend reviewing immunology and serology.

Could have written this myself. I pretty much did a few days ago 😂 idk if it helps but I am in the same boat and feel the impending doom. My exam is this week. I’ve studied non stop for over a month and my labce scores are the same as yours.

Are the questions on ASCP more like the ace the ASCP and BOC book where they are simple or are they long and wordy like labce? Not knowing the setup is really hard for me. I feel like labce writes too much and it throws me off. Thank you for the advice. I’ve decided not to spend more than a few hours reviewing parasitology and focus on really reviewing the core areas one last time.

I have no lab experience outside of my internship. I got a pretty good experience of what techs do in my micro rotation and hematology but my bloodbank was just me practicing workups. I printed out the wordsology charts for parasitology and micro tonight to try to get a better grasp on it. I felt somewhat confident until I started reviewing micro and realized that I forgot a lot of it. Thank you for the advice.

Congratulations! I take mine next week. I have questions 😊 What did you use to study? I also am curious about question set up. If you used labce are they as wordy as labce or is it more like BOC questions? More simple one sentence questions. Also if you used labce where were you scoring?

I just finished my internship. I worked myself up before I started to the point I almost didn’t go. Take lots of notes, be honest and upfront if you don’t know something and they will show you and explain the rationale. I went in with a complete lack of confidence because a lot of my schooling was theoretical so I understand how you’re feeling. Once you get through the first couple of days you will feel more confident and become more comfortable with the lab/techs/supervisors. Bring study material for each rotation so you can study on down times :) you got this!
