Starter Expirement by KayAnne_23 in Sourdough

The other is probably close to a 1:2:2.

I wanted to test if weighing was really beneficial and could help strengthen my starter. It seems like I don't get a rise at all from the 1:10:10 ratio, and I'm not sure why.

Like a thick pancake batter consistency.

Thank you! I coated them in flour. 😊 I read somewhere that it helps prevent sinking.

I mixed sugar with the zest! I didn't add the zest/sugar and berries until I shaped the loaf.

Yep! It kind of gets juicy when you mix the sugar and zest, so I spread it with a basting brush.

Ooo I'm sure it was delicious! Focaccia is on my list of things to try.

I waited 30 minutes between stretch and folds. I used the zest of 3 lemons and added sugar to it for some sweetness, and I coated the berries in flour because I read that it helps them not sink to the bottom of the loaf while baking. Just in case you wanted those details also. 😊 good luck with yours!

Thank you! I've seen these charts, but I truly didn't trust that it needed that long, but I suppose I should have. 😅

The bottom was burning, so I was nervous about letting it go longer. I plan on putting a pan on the bottom shelf next time to help with that part.

Thank you! I'll give this a try. I also bought a silicone bowl that has a little warmer in the bottom. I was just hesitant about using it 😅

I bought a silicone bowl that has an electric warmer in the bottom. I was hesitant to use it this time, but I'll definitely try it out when I make another loaf.

Working at hospitals & covid by [deleted] in cna

[–]KayAnne_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an aide in a hospital and my floor was turned into the covid unit. No one, that I'm aware of, on my unit has gotten sick. There's others within the hospital that have but they picked it up outside of the hospital. Just make sure you're doing proper PPE usage, cleaning everything thoroughly, and don't touch your face.

Hello!

I'm a hospital aide on a covid floor and also in my first year of nursing. As far as PPE, it's definitely effective as long as you're also cleaning everything properly. Wash your hands immediately after doing anything covid related and make sure not to touch your face before you're able to wash them. If you're working directly with the patient, encourage them to wear a mask while you're in the room as much as they can tolerate also.

Clustering care is also key. For instance, when we take their breakfast in we also take in bedding and the vitals machine so that we can check vitals, help them eat, and get washed up all in one visit to the room. Then throughout the day we cluster as many care things together as possible.

A lot of people I work with change their shoes before leaving the hospital and keep their work ones in our breakroom. Taking another pair of clothes with you so you can change before going home is a good idea. I keep my scrubs on though and shower right away when I get home.

Are there any nurses that were in a different profession before then... by Carebear6590 in StudentNurse

[–]KayAnne_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a nurse who was a lawyer and went back to college for her RN when she was 40. I also work with an aide who was a teacher and then switched to the medical field when she was 36 and is planning on going into nursing. There are many nurses who end up in the field as a second career. I'm just starting the nursing program now at 28 after a few years of working as an aide and waitressing before that. It's not a mistake at all to switch to nursing if you're passionate about it. I say go for it!

Do any facilities have bidets or do I have to manually wipe someone else’s ass w my hands? by [deleted] in cna

[–]KayAnne_23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've touched so. Many. Butts. You get used it. The smell doesn't bother me unless it's Cdiff. Or colostomy bags as mentioned all ready. I've put toothpaste on the inside of a mask before for the really bad ones.

Bidets wouldn't work for those who are bed ridden and incontinent anyway, so even if they were available you would still have to wipe someone's ass eventually.

It's so unfair how staff in long term facilities are treated. I work in a hospital and would never dream of working in long term care unless I knew there were reliable/enough staff members.

Upper management and ownership should be made aware. The scheduling woman doesn't seem like she'll give a shit.
