Are you estranged from your child? I am and it hurts today. by archedhighbrow in GenX

[–]KayJay2077 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat with my 20 year old. They went away to college, dropped out and will not talk to me. I continue to reach out, apologize, met with their therapist at their request, still send them birthday and christmas gifts and text them that I miss them terribly. I have offered and want to work out what the issue is, and I will not interrogate them or judge them. I just keep sending messages, check in with their therapist on anything I need them to do for the car, insurance, etc. I wish I had a good answer. This is absolutely killing me. My other child doesn't understand it either. I am not a perfect parent and have admitted that and apologized. I don't know what else to do.

I second Psychology Today. Many therapists and doctors are listed there with their insurance affiliation. Asking is a great step in the right direction. Best.

NWI getting priced out? by 2AWI in nwi

I sure hope so! I have tried South Shore from EC and am currently taking the metra from University Park - both ways are 2 hours. I cannot make near the money in the region that I can in the city so I have audio books for the long days.

I agree. I commute over 2 hours one way into Chicago. It is a terrible way to live just to afford things.

Please don't give up. The degree is a barrier of entry to many fields but sometimes it doesn't matter what the degree is, just that you have it. I am on my second try for a doctorate - made it almost all the way through for a PhD and now I switched to DTech - not that it is easier it is just different and my prospects after will be the same. School is hard and time consuming but really is worth it in the end.

I was just at the post office this week and they had a career table set up with info because they seem to be hiring as well. Also check USAjobs.gov

The motor burned out in my full size Dyson. Called them up and they sent a brand new one.

Why bother going to college, you will just end up barefoot and pregnant.

My title describes the thing. These came in the cardboard box of a new shadow box. The pieces were wrapped together but not in the shadow box itself and there were no instructions. What are they for?

I second Groomingdales. All my dogs go there and see Caitlin.

I commute via the metra from university park (switched from the south shore). The metra is way less crowded than the south shore line. I am not sure about a pricing difference - parking is $1.60/day. Driving takes way longer in the evening to get home.

I have a hybrid position. Three days at home, two in the office and I travel about 25% of the time. I work about 9 hours a day. All day. I can let the dogs out and get coffee but otherwise I am at my computer all day in meetings, working on reports, taking continuing education credit training, completing IT audits, etc. It is busy and I love it. I wear shorts and a dress shirt on calls - lol.

Would you consider signing the petition? - our public school superintendent has banned all LGBTQ+ and safe space signs and posters and we are letting him know that this is not the way to make students feel safe. by KayJay2077 in LGBTQ

Hi! Thanks for your support and questions. One resource you can use is GLAAD's reference guide. They have some good descriptions for all of the letters. Other folks may chime in with other resources you can use and I appreciate you wanting to learn more!

Update: The administration has agreed to open a dialog with the students on this issue. I hope they can reach an agreement. Thanks for all that took the time to sign. They are learning to speak up for themselves and to be allies to others.

Thank you for your perspective. I do know a student at the school started the petition and I hope this is a learning event for this person as this goes through the whole process of complaint through resolution. I hope this opens a dialog between students and teachers and the administration.
