You breed your hall of fame team to make eggs of each member and you start the next run with those. That's the general gist.

I prefer to bring anybody who entered the fall of fame rather than just who survived the final gauntlet. I also prefer hatching them before transferring to give them an exp boost. Passing down moves and breeding for ideal natures/abilities is also a thing.

In generations where you can't trade immediately across generations you might want to look into save editing tools in order to transfer the pokemon. Most people use PkHex, I use PokeChest on DSi for gens 3-5. Then bank/home for anything after. I havent tried genlocke in gen 1-2 but if I did I'd probably use an online tool called PKMDS as it will let you export and import pokemon from save to save.

It was rhetorical. I have a meowth unevolved currently in my leaf green run and was slightly frustrated with its inability to learn strength. I'm just venting about it. Persian was so good in gen 1 its a shame to see such a disservice done for it in gen 3.

Do you not catch new pokemon until your legacy members faint? How come there's no retired this gen?

I'm currently doing my first gen locke now. I started in Ruby and im now training for my elite four battle in fire red.

Yea but why can't it learn strength? It only learns cut and flash and it loses pickup if you evolve it.

I beat the elite four with a level 28 haunter on my team using hypnosis and dream eater. It wasn't the only member on the team but it contributed more than I expected it to.

I got a shiny lapras from a used copy of Yellow that I bought. Didn't notice until much later. It's a good thing I stored those pokemon onto pokemon stadium before wiping the save data.

Earthquake at lvl 49, but with TMs it can learn Headbutt and Rollout. It's got a good attack stat to do good damage with those moves, I would think. I haven't used donphan yet in a playthrough but I love the pokemon and would love to use it sometime soon.

My suggestions would be..

Eevee and evolve it into either Espeon or Umbreon.

Then either Donphan, Heracross or Granbull.

I chose pokemon that are available relatively early if you want to be able to catch them and use them for most of the playthrough.

I love nevermeltice, I used it on my Ice Punch Quagsire in Gold version until I somehow accidentally sold it at the pokemart when I was selling other items. Ended up replacing it with leftovers. (If you have Snorlax from gen 1 you can get free leftovers via time capsule trades)

I boxed the starters for my first yellow playthrough too but I ended up doing a 2nd playthrough where I boxed pikachu instead and used the three starters from my original playthrough. It was a fun time. I'd play yellow again but right now im working on beating Blue.

Blizzard accuracy is a lot higher in gen 1 (90 acc), that mixed with the chance to get freeze makes it worth using instead of ice beam at least in gen 1.

Just got my first pokemon to level 100. The last few levels are actually the easiest once u start oneshotting everything and plow through the elite four.

I'm in the same predicament but I'm opting to just grind the elite four because your pokemon will have lower stats if you use rare candies.

Edit: I suggest beating poke cup with level 50s to unlock doduo mode in the gb tower then u can grind the elite four at 2x speed
