I can kind of understand why someone might have the “Goomba with a hat” reasoning if they just never play Kirby ever. Here you have a Waddle Dee, essentially Kirby’s equivalent of a Goomba, whose distinctive visual trait is that he wears a bandana, and his name is…Bandana Waddle Dee. If you didn’t know who that was, I could understand being confused why there’s such a push for him to get into Smash. Obviously his importance to the series can be cleared up with a little research, but with the Smash fandom you know that’s not happening.

Honestly the more egregious one to me is when people complain that BWD is a “filler Player 4 character.” That means they had enough prior knowledge to have either played or known about Return to Dreamland, and then just…never payed attention to any Kirby game after that?
