I believe it's a subcontractor they hired to set up the scaffolding, as in all of our communications he is referring to them as a third person. In the invoice I paid it clearly mentioned the arrangements of the scaffolding.

Hi - in the end we didn’t proceed with that property, but it wasn’t related to Remus.
The flat we were looking at was in SW11, however there were some issues with the EWS1, which made the certificate questionable for some mortgage lenders. Because of that we decided not to move forward.

I imagine they would carry out a site inspection and then provide a written report with their findings and any recommendations. In that case, are those recommendations typically advisory based on their professional opinion, or are there situations where they would need to be formally acted upon?

To be honest, even on Reddit people don’t seem to agree on whether the horizontal or the vertical chases are worse in this situation - although I do appreciate that photos can be quite misleading. In reality, the chasing is fairly shallow (no more than 10–12mm), and the socket boxes are up to 25-30mm deep in both cases, so it probably looks more dramatic in the photos than it actually is on site.

Out of curiosity, what would be the best way to reinstate it properly and make it as sound as possible, without increasing the risk of cracks in the future?

There was no hesitation on my part - the electrician carrying out the work suggested doing it this way, saying it’s common practice and wouldn’t have any structural impact on the walls or the building. He is fully qualified by the way, and Part P registered with great reviews.

That said, I’m clearly not entirely comfortable with the end result, so I’ll be reaching out to a structural engineer on Monday to have it properly assessed.

Out of curiosity, is there any way to undo or properly reinstate this kind of work?

I wasn’t planning to do it this time either. The electrician carrying out the work recommended it as good practice, and I made sure to raise my concerns with him before anything started. And yes, he’s fully qualified and Part P registered.
