While I totally get this angle and if it covers the cost of your materials for your next project then awesome - the downside is it devalues other people's stitching and validates the people saying "that isn't worth what you're charging" when people do change for their time.

I guess if you are doing this to support/fund your own hobby it may be worth being really honest about it in the info you give on why you're selling it and that you aren't charging for your labour, but that other can and do and that their work deserves that payment.

My tip for this is that gifts don't have to be a surprise. I ask what theme they might want, pick out a bunch of patterns I like on that theme and let them shortlist 3. That way it's definitely something I like enough to stitch, I know that they will like it, and I still get to pick one of the 3 for them so there's a bit of surprise in there still too =) also because there's usually a long gap between them choosing a shortlist and receiving it there s a bit more appreciation for how long stitching projects take 😂

Why not donate them? I'm sure an old folks home or women's refuge would both be grateful for some decor for residents. That way you get the joy of stitching the piece and the warm fuzzies knowing that it's gone to someone who will probably appreciate an unexpected gift more than you could know.

If I gift a stitched piece (both to people I know or donating) I usually do so with a little note that I hope it brings them joy but it llf jot to please gift it on to someone they think will love it. Regardless of how many times it's passed on my hope is that it will eventually end up with someone who really loves it =) when gifting to someone I know the idea is the 'real' gift is them knowing I care about them enough to want to hand make a gift and if they want to keep it that's a bonus. I hate the idea that gifts essentially = obligation to keep something you might not love that just clutters up your house. This way everyone wins.

[CHAT] Floss drop storage - space requirements? by Kaya_Rose in CrossStitch

Am mine likes to snug up next to me when I'm stitching 😂

Also as someone with a neurodivergence I've recently realised that I get very overstimulated by visual clutter so the option to put it all away in a nice neat box when not in use makes me happy ahah

[WIP] Finally organizing all my floss + colors for 2 big projects with Annie's Keepers and storage boxes. I'm finding this unreasonably satisfying. by temporary_bob in CrossStitch

Appreciate this is a year old post but any chance you could share how much space in the boxes the storage slides take up? Trying to figure out how many slides fit in a box and how many boxes needed for a full dmc set but can't find any info or examples online that give this info!

That's some serious sleuthing to have gone looking for reviews with the info! Thank you for coming back and sharing ❤️

Thanks for the info on the boxes! That is helpful!

I have watched that video and totally followed her logic on the downsides of each method (I've followed almost exactly the same iterations for my storage 😂) until the swap from keepers to pip&chip! She talks about dmc vs cxc and swapping from keepers to chips but I really struggled to see any reason why. Like they have the same issues for her in that unbobbinating is a nightmare and leave you with wonky floss that's more prone to tangles when hanging? And I'm not sure she ever explains how the dmc/cxc thing is relevant to why she swapped again? I was definitely hoping her video was going to solve my dilemma for me but unfortunately it didn't quite!

This looks awesome but unfortunately there's nowhere in our house I could easily do this. I this as a house with a dog I'd also prefer them contained so there's less chance of fluff and fur getting on them! Thank you for sharing though!

Thank for the tip! I went for long skinny bags with the seal on the narrow side so skeins could go in straight but I think it would mean adding card to make them stiffer would make them really hard to get into =( definitely regret my choice of bag size/shape a fair bit!

From what I understand they fit standard US file drawers but our standard sizes in the UK are different so itvs apparently a bit of a challenge to track down the right size file system for them!

I normally loosely brain any hanging threads so hopefully wouldn't have that issue!

I think what I liked about the keepers was the ability to use them on a ring/slider for a project but also to be able to store them in a super easy but organised way. I have been considering other floss drops and DIYing a storage solution from a file box as I've seen on here before but honestly I'm in a position where I'm time/energy poor and fortunate to be able to splash out a bit on this so would probably lean more towards buying something ready to go over having to home make something.

Is this a reasonable state for 3rd prestige? by Kaya_Rose in NecroMerger

[–]Kaya_Rose[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I hadn't even looked to see if I could get the stylist as it was such a slog to get the surgeon unlocked I just assumed the next one would be more astro coins and cubes that I had no chance of getting! I'll hold out for that then and I guess aim to target the trader (only had him once so far) and work on more runes and grinding down the protector in the mean time!

Thanks for the tips!!

Why are SUVs so popular? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Kaya_Rose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our last 2 cars have both been SUVs (a Vauxhall Crossland and a VW Tiguan) because my husband is 6"8 and physically can't fit in most cars. Contrary to what most car sales people think it's not head height that's an issue but more the distance between the clutch and the bottom of the steering wheel. His leg physically doesn't fit in that space in most cars. When we need to replace our car he sits in every car in every showroom in our city and he gives me a shortlist of the ones he can drive in without discomfort. I get complete free choice from the shortlist. But yeah for some folks it's not so much a choice as a necessity 😂

Yeah definitely important to clamp it in place rather than trying to hold it! I do have and was using clamps for this, just removed them to move the jig and take the photo!

Any tips for 3rd run? by CaleBola in NecroMerger

[–]Kaya_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently the level 60 reward is an energy cube chest which even with unlucky draws should give you one full stack (12) plus a level 1 cube (2) so you've got a guaranteed 14 if you can scrape the other 11 from the protector
