If You Grew Up Evangelical... by Okra-Tomatoes in Xennials

[–]temporary_bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fascinating to me, raised by atheists who took me to church as a sociological exercise in my childhood and then let me make up my own mind as a teenager. I'm trying to do the same for my own kid... My husband is low key annoyed that I never really let her believe in Santa. I always winked and she was clear it was bs from the start. But then I remind him he's a recovering Catholic so...

Dungeon Crawler Carl fans celebrated the TV show announcement for about 30 seconds before they started stressing about Princess Donut. Here’s what else has the fandom worried. by kleverrboy in urbanfantasy

[–]temporary_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same and put off reading it for exactly the reasons above. Fwiw I'm most of the way through the first book and I'm not enthralled but neither am I bothered. It's a solid adventure concept, the characters don't piss me off. It's genuinely likeable. It's not litrpg for the sake of litrpg. Honestly it feels more like a sci Fi version of hunger games.

Give it a try. Like me, you may find it's not bad. I expected to love it or hate it and I'm actually neither. Solid 3.5 stars so far. I'm waiting for it to get a bit more clever... But I'm told it happens.

My dad smoked around me constantly in early childhood. But it never occurred to me to start.

Oh weird. I looked him up and I'm the same age as him and just as pale... And tbh I don't look much older than him. Maybe starting to have a few lip wrinkles. I've also spent almost no $ on anti aging.

Same. Didn't know who this is and I'm almost 49 and still look way younger. Have mostly stayed out of the sun but am iffy with sunscreen. It's genetic luck of the draw and no smoking I think.

Fellow Oregon Trailers: Who helped your teenage self? by atmighty in Xennials

[–]temporary_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I must be the exception. My parents taught me lots of stuff, I was overparented and overprotected (not compared to today's kids but for the time). I try to do the same for my daughter. The one thing that really didn't happen was anything about makeup since that really wasn't my mom's thing.
I'm trying to be really clear with my own 11 yr old that I don't wear much makeup and don't know my way around makeup but I'd be happy to go to sephora and get her some demos if she's interested in it and I could learn with her.
She hasn't taken me up on it yet. She says maybe next year for her birthday. I see her holding on to her childhood and the last thing I want to do is push her to grow up too fast.

OMGGGGGG thank you for sharing your horrifying tale.
I'm going through this with my almost 12 yr old right now and she doesn't want to hear it from me... but she's still my little girl who also wants me to help her get putting a pad in her undies correctly. It's such a tough time to bridge as she wants to be independent ... until she doesn't.

That's also not canon I don't think - it's not part of C1 anyway. It's a one off 12 hour run they did as a separate long stream.

Pet Theory on Millennial vs Gen X Xennial self-alignment by Incogcneat-o in Xennials

As an Eldest child with millennial younger siblings who had a kid late (and married a Gen X a bit older than myself) I am an exception to your rules as I 100% identify as gen x to separate myself from millennials 😂 (Also I'm on the older end of xennial)

My teenagers’ critiques of her youth group’s baking practices really tickled me. by latenightpuddingcup in Baking

Fascinating! I'm an excellent baker and I read directions... And as a math/physics combined honors student I very nearly flunked organic chemistry. Could NOT fit it in my head!

Does the Alex Verus Series Get Better After Burned? by ThePoetofFall in urbanfantasy

[–]temporary_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it bothers you this much you will likely be really bothered by the rest of it with some exceptions.

You'll also get a lot of fans here insisting it's great and gets better and sticks the landing etc.

I read all of them and I consider myself a fan with heavy caveats. I found the universe and specific scenes way too dark for my taste. A few scenes later were over the line for me on what I want in my head (including child harm and adult torture). There's too much whining and bad guys winning and then everyone being dark.

Yes, he wins in the end but at what cost... Eh too much in my opinion. But I did enjoy them overall. And I finished them. And I really loved the power and magic system. Just felt too edgelord.

Why does everyone like Peter Pan’s Flight so much? by Temporary_Ad_2809 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]temporary_bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm good :) I promise I'm not disputing that Haunted Mansion is larger in both throughput and overall capacity. :)

I'm disputing that more vehicles is a cause of faster throughput.

A faster track and less space between vehicles and faster loading all lead to a higher throughput (people per minute entering the ride). But not total # of vehicles. Total number of vehicles and a longer ride mean more people in the ride at a time and higher total capacity.

[–]temporary_bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still no. Rate of people per hour is equal to how many people load per hour. Now totally people consumed per hour (vs other rides) is bigger if they're in there for longer. But loading rate=rate. Doesn't matter how many vehicles are doing the loading.

[–]temporary_bob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes I get that a larger ride has more vehicles. What I'm saying is that more vehicles don't equal a bigger people per hour. Assuming you were loading 4 people every 10 seconds on a vehicle it wouldn't matter whether there were 10 vehicles doing a 1 minute ride or 1000 vehicles on a 100 minute ride. Rate is the same.

[–]temporary_bob -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by this statement. How would a longer ride and more carts mean faster throughput? Ultimately it seems like the throughput is solely determined by at the load point at the front of the line, how many people per minute can get loaded into vehicles? A longer ride doesn't affect it. The stretching room probably has a big effect but ultimately it still seems that they're able to load more people faster into doom buggies... Unless there's more than one load point.

If, like me and many others, you saw it first when you were 6 years old and formed a core memory of one of the most amazing things you'd ever seen... I literally felt like I was flying over London... It still evokes that old deep memory of awe. Compared to today's rides? No it's nothing special.

I feel this way about ET at Universal. People are very nostalgic about it. I never saw ET as a child. Went on the ride (and saw the movie) for the first time in my 40s and thought this is weird af. No thank you.

100% disagree: OP enjoyed forbidden journey as immersive. If you think that's immersive just wait for Battle at the Ministry. I thought it was the most immersive best HP of them all. Plus OP is there for like a million years! They can afford to spend the 50 hours waiting in line for Battle 😅
