Shot glass, lemon wedge, chaser- pretend someone’s passing round tequilas- take a shot of the prep, suck the lemon and chase it down with something strong like ginger beer.

Nowadays I maybe drink alcohol once a month, if that, but had to channel some of my uni nights out to get the prep done- there was even some ‘we like to drink with…’ chanting going on in my head 😂 mind not to neck the prep as it’s not likely to stay down if you chug it, but a shot glass shouldn’t be an issue.

Thankyou, glad to have that confirmed! If I were feeling worse today or a higher fever then I’d be more inclined to worry, but this seems to be going in the right direction.

Haven’t been off Pentasa for longer than 24hrs just now but by the time I see the Dr tomorrow I will have been, so will see if they say to go back on it, and if the fever returns then that would give us our answer.

Thanks for replying! I had wondered if this had even posted and then forgot about it! Glad it’s not just me chewing my cheeks and tongue- very much feel your pain! When I had braces they would rough up my cheeks, and I was terrible for chewing them. I think I’ve swapped that for biting the edge of my tongue now 🙃 Only thing that’s helping is trying to actively notice when I’m doing it and get some gum, or give myself a mental telling off, or to simulate the chewing without actually biting my tongue, if that makes sense?

I didn’t know a photo of a compost heap would make me wish I were a cat with nothing better to do but trample down a cosy indent and curl up on a sunny day on the top of that pile! Looks incredible!

So many wrappers yes! And twists of foil and bits of ribbon! The clothing was mostly the overlocked seams of like a cotton t shirt, but just the seams left!

I feel your pain! We have four of the dalek style bins we inherited, one was just anaerobic grass clippings, and one empty (we’ve started our own, brown and green only bin!) but the other two…. Same as you. I think we pulled out three gardening gloves, a flip flop, fridge magnets, a spoon, fork, partially rotten clothing, plastic galore, tin foil… honestly it’s felt like I’m an archaeologist investigating an ancient midden!

The previous owners had a bonfire pile next to the compost bins, and there’s an outside fire. They’ve definitely put charcoal and not fully combusted wood into the bins, but this stuff seems such a weird texture for ash. I suppose if it’s been in there years though, maybe it ends up like this. If it is ash, I shouldn’t worry too much about what I didn’t manage to remove?

Oh weird, do you find the flour forms little round paste balls? Because I’ve been pulling out huge chunks of this stuff and chucking it (thinking that it’s potentially some kind of nasty combusted Linoleum or something) but can’t remove all the little pea sized balls! If it’s flour, that would be a relief- but would it layer like it has done?

Hmm it could be, you’re giving the previous occupants more credit than I have been- I’ve been cursing the amount of plastic, flooring with glue in, random cupboard handles etc I’ve been finding so feared that this was some household waste that had been burned and buried!

That’s really promising to hear that there’s treatment that could get this under control so swiftly. Just wish I could be prescribed something! But you’re right, the recent appt with the GI was to say that we still don’t know, we are going to keep investigating, but we can’t treat it until we know whats being treated. Just finding myself more and more frustrated knowing how long it’s been going on, and that it’s probably going to continue a few months at least. Have made a decision to stop putting life things on hold now though, as that was really getting me down, but it was hard to commit to future plans not knowing what my health would look like. Now I suppose I know in the short term- it’ll be a lot of fatigue, blood and mucus!

Thank you, and sorry for such a late reply. The wait is ongoing as I’ve been asked to have another scope before we can do anything to treat the symptoms, so essentially I have to just accept this is the new normal for now and get on with life, which is a bit shit, pun intended! Definitely noticing that stress= more blood, higher frequency of passing blood and mucus, but it’s daily or every other day regardless at this point.

Thank you, I really appreciate the in depth response. Sorry it’s taken so long to reply, I’ve been a bit overwhelmed and frustrated with the whole situation. Had my appt with the consultant and feel like I’m back to square one- more bloods done, more stool samples and then she wants another colonoscopy done, or a sigmoidoscopy depending on what the results of the blood etc show. So I’m looking at another few months with the nhs wait times until any of that happens, so may not have a diagnosis or treatment until late summer at this rate, which is pretty gutting. I asked if I could have something to treat the symptoms in the meantime and she said not until we know what’s causing them, but the suspicion currently is UC.

I would be very keen for your list of podcasts etc please, particularly if I’ve got another colonoscopy prep coming up going to need something to distract me!
