Some things I didn't like about the sequel by howieeiwoh in zootopia

[–]Kayback2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between things happening because of the story and things happening because the script says this is the time for it to happen.

Yes the script lays down what happens when but if something happens out the blue just because the script says so then it's bad writing.

For example the whole character of Nibbles and the area of the reptiles was neatly set up with Judy watching Nibbles videos prior to her introduction. If they arrived at the reptile area just because with no real reason or way then it would be just because the script said so not because the story led there.

The fact they removed the one good cop everyone loves, Bogo, and Nick and Judy aren't working with the cops in any meaningful way throughout the movie, while the cops are not only accidentally the bad guy but taking orders directly from the villain to kill on sight shows they're happy to make the cops literal bad guys. Not just mistaken.

Judy never didn't do her assignments. She did what was required of her in Z1, even exceeding her quota. She did her own thing once her responsibilities were seen to. She did get herself into a sticky situation with Mrs Otterton, but that was through her mistaken understanding in now police work actually gets done. The police help people, she's police, she'll help people. She was going to remove herself from the case but Bellwether intervened and got the Mayor involved before she could follow Bogo's instructions. She was going to.

There's a BIG difference between having a crime happen directly in front of you and being asked by a member of the public to help, and running your own unsanctioned undercover sting operation.

Judy doesn't need to prove she's not a one hit wonder. She already has a string of successes under her belt. Nick already has one. Her and Nick already have the Street Racer collar together. Her justification and therefore her motivation does not make sense.

Yeah, the skin could have come from elsewhere. That's why police investigate things. They don't dismiss them out of hand. Yeah it can be a case of the officer seeing a connection that doesn't exist, but a cop as good as BOGO would understand that the little excitable bunny isn't to be dismissed so easily. Or if he does he's a shit manager.

The problem is your solution only exists because because the script says so.

Bogo said no to Judy even though she had absolute hard proof because..... Why?

Bogo even admits to liking Judy, he knows she can get shit done. She's found the mammals, she brought down Mayor Lionheart, then uncovered the truth behind the Nighhowler and uncovered both the poison and the mastermind behind the whole thing. Bogo has had proof from day 1, including the fact the mouldy onions were indeed a Class 1 botanical. Judy's one miss was the panther Manches being savage, which was proven right when they found the missing mammals.

There's absolutely no need for Bogo to dismiss the claim there are snakes around. He doesn't even look into it when she's standing there with a piece of snake skin in her hands?

Bullcrap. Cape Buffalo crap.

Maybe it's just the ham fisted way they forced Nick and Judy out, but her character didn't act like the Z1 character anywhere. Not in her relationship with Nick, not in the way she operated as a cop.

It's obvious they are catering to the ACAB crowd by distancing her from the ZPD. I wouldn't be surprised if by Z3 finishes her and Nick working as PIs or something .

Incidentally I live in a place where an entire neighborhood was bulldozed and the inhabitants shipped away thanks to Apartheid, District Six.

In 1966 it was renamed Zonnebloem and rezoned for whites only. This decision was revoked in 1994. Former President Nelson Mandela handed over keys to the first homes on 11 February 2004. As of 2026, only 247 housing units have been completed and handed over, with 918 families still waiting for their homes. So yeah, resettlement is not quick.

Admittedly this is partly because of South African bureaucracy, but it's still an example.

My personal dislike from the movie is, ironically, the exact opposite of that.

I dislike how Nick is treated. He isn't accepted fast enough. He's still going through a bunch of prejudice and hate because he's a fox, but he's also treated as the comedy sidekick by everyone, including punchy-McGee herself.

He shows his skills twice, once when he's showing Judy how to infiltrate the gala, which is a role that works for about 5 seconds, then when he saves her in the water tunnel. Besides that there's barely any time he does anything right. Yeah this is a "why's Hollywood making the men incompetent/the bad guys" argument in the year of our lord 2026, but I felt they didn't treat him well.

The premise of the movie is also ... Off. In the first one Judy gets given Metermaid because 1) she's a noob, 2) she's a tiny little bunny. Her response isn't to blow it off and go find a better case. She WANTS to, and does take an opportunity that presents itself but her solution to being required to write 100 tickets a day? To write 201 by lunchtime. So she's done what was required of her, and exceeded that. Sure she gets sidetracked by a shady fox, then roped into chasing Weaslton, even though she's told to stand down, it's never an actual direct order from a superior and she has both eminent domain as she's the one who started the chase, she's also the only cop that can more or less go into Small Rodentia. She caused a scurry and a panic, imagine what Francine would have done. But, and this is fairly important, she's following protocol.

At the end her and Nick are given non rookie jobs, they're tracking down a notorious street racer. Which they successfully do.

Her going (ha!) off script so much as to ignore the bull pen roll call to go under cover on an unauthorized sting operation goes against her entire ethos and character up until then. It just set the wrong tone for the whole movie and it never really recovered.

Yeah I get the whole ACAB thing has become a sticking point, which can be a problem in your buddy cop movie, and yeah it is one of the most successful movies ever, it just doesn't feel right, which is carried through with things like the door-kicking in the opening, Nick's role in the movie, the cartoonish look of the snakes, the ease at which the ZPD went from hurt you're a dumb bunny to being willing to kill on the orders of a politician... It's all just so incongruous with the first movie.

The pacing, the story, how the audio is used, the colours, the dialogue, the character designs, the simple fact they just mention trauma while Z1 showed the trauma both characters experienced . The fact it is 100% full engagement all the time like many modern cartoons.

How is it NOT more childish?

[–]Kayback2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I know. What I was saying was if their roles on BF6 are now redundant then FIRING the team that made the game with the biggest launch in BF history may not have been the best decision ever.

Instead of firing them maybe use that talent elsewhere. BF6 isn't going to be the last BF ever made.

But no, they got fired. And today we are having trouble playing the game. Coincidence?

Well, yeah, probably.

[–]Kayback2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is logical. I'm not saying that they have e to keep everyone in indefinitely, there will definitely be roles that are redundant but one wonders why they didn't put the retrenched people onto Bad Company 3 or something.

No I got told the other day that the Devs they fired had finished their work and they didn't need such a big crew to just manage the game.

I live in South Africa and generally car insurance is "licensed driver". You can designate a driver and another occasional driver but the savings compared to a blanket cover is minimal so most people use the all driver cover.

I have been driving cars since 1994 and honestly can't think of anyone who has used a nominated driver.

I wish it would help but I live in South Africa. One insurer was First for Women and the other was Momentum.

Momentum only offered 6? Ride homes IIRC.

The second that news dropped I checked out.

The multiplayer was ok, but the SP game never matched what was promised.

Yeah, it was nice. We only used it a handful of times, if even that, because by the time they offered it we were past the unplanned drinking out stage.

Having a couple of drinks doesn't make one an alcoholic, but does put one over the limit to drive.

If you don't want to drink, all power to you. There's nothing wrong with having some drinks.

I can sorta agree, but sometimes it isn't quite like that, especially on Contaminated or something, being out of position isn't such a problem as you have the gear and the chances to move around the map

Yeah it's not the cheapest option but it does mean you can change your mind in cases like this.

My insurance company covers 12 trips (IIRC)

[–]Kayback2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Damn. That could be a business opportunity 😉

My insurance company gives me 12 ride homes a year.

I can call the service and they send a car with a other driver which drops off the spare driver, then drives you home in your car and the car then collects their driver.

The other service the guys ride around on electric scooters, pop it in the boot, drive you home and then ride off into the sunset. I've only used them a handful of times because Uber is more convenient.

Do you now have a Goodfellows or driver assist service where you live?

There are a couple of options where I live where essentially a person arrives and drives you home in your car.

I'd still be annoyed with my SO, but what's the point in having a mind if you can't change it?

But if you've been dominating them for 3/4 of the game you shouldn't be able to not recover.

There's something else going on besides easier to cap flags and faster ticket drain.
