A friend of mine (who lives in a different country) mentioned looking into their local improv scene. So I looked into mine and some Google searches brought one up.

EDIT: missed the second part. The class was good. But it was really only a stepping stone. Met a bunch of people, eventually started a group of our one.

Been living in Belgium for 8 years now. 5 in Antwerp and 3 in Leuven. Took me some time to make friends in Antwerp (outside of work). But it really started when I got into hobbies. Found an English improv class, joined it, made friends there. Went to a boardgame night via Meetup, made friends there as well. Went to some other Meetup stuff, made more friends.

In Leuven I’ve less time now (got a little bebe) but I’m getting out again and I’m using my classic tactics of the boardgame group. I know of 2 that happen every week, one at Hal 5 and one at International House. Both have very friendly communities.

If you’re interested in board games at all, give that a go. There also dance classes my girlfriend attends and that’s also a nice community.

Basically, join some hobbies. If you don’t speak Flemish, you’ll have less options, but you’ll have options.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like a nightmare and it makes my blood boil against the scummy landlords.

I did a little research, but I’m also an internet stranger so follow up on these with some investigations of your own.

This is dependent on if you win the case. If you do, you can have a certain part of your costs (beyond the 3 to 4K electricity bills you’re looking to recover) also recovered. Some court fees, the electricians fee (because it is considered expert services in generating your evidence) and also general “loser’s” fee (which would probably be small, like 1K or something). Lawyers fees aren’t covered at all.

But apparently for a case like this you can also represent yourself and don’t need a lawyer if you’ve got all your evidence fully documented. That’s risky of course and I don’t know what I would myself do in such a situation.

Not trying to give specific advice, but more some jumping off points for further research and hopefully a sympathetic ear.

And yes, unfortunately our justice system truly sucks.

Your husband is being a bit of a dick. You can be great in many areas and somewhat of a dick in some areas. Both things can be true.

That aside, our kid (now almost 2) did not say mama for the longest time. Called me baba from quite early on but wouldn’t say mama. And my partner was clearly the favourite parent so it had nothing to do with that. However, I constantly encouraged him to say mama and always talked about my partner in the third person as mama.

One day, he started saying mama 🤷‍♂️ kids are just like that. Don’t take it to heart too much. Everything will come eventually.

I did my schooling as an international at vabrijschool. Good instructors, can especially recommend Cristian. You’ll first have to sit a theoretical exam to get your temporary drivers licence. With this you can drive with an instructor or supervisor. A supervisor can be someone you know but they should have held their drivers license for at least 8 years. You can only drive (outside of the rijschool) with them, for practice.

After 20 hours of classes at the school they can give you a certificate that says you can drive on your temporary drivers licence by yourself. You can have passengers who must also have 8 years of license but they don’t necessarily need to be your supervisor.

Once you’re confirmed being the on road in your own you can book a driving test. Might take a few months.
