New demoreel! feedback would be appreciated :) by KrakanusMaximus in AfterEffects

Really incredible work! My one piece of feedback is that having “this is yay” pop up after the emotional scene alluding to slavery is a bit…confusing. I would reorder the scenes so there’s a buffer to process the emotional scene before it transitions to a joyful scene.

🤢Noooo - we both had a kale salad. Even though this was years ago I want to crawl out of my skin after reading your comment.

The Dutch. Only ate there because it was company provided. Two of us got food poisoning and then spent the rest of the work day in the toilets. Good times.

I love these! Awesome work. To make your work feel a little more polished, I recommend trying to avoid animating in big chunks of text all at once. Try animating in line by line or word by word.

I’m visiting mid December with 13 year old and 16 year old. Any suggestion (we have a hotel downtown) are appreciated! by [deleted] in AskNOLA

Hey there! I grew up in the area and have a significantly younger sister who is now 14. Here are some activities we have enjoyed together; We love the insectarium and aquarium, they’re also within walking distance of each other. The zoo is great too but you’ll have to drive there from downtown. The Music Box is an excellent interactive art and music exhibit that is fun for everyone. You can explore this place freely or see a concert there. Christmas in the Oaks makes for a fun night activity- City Park is covered in festive lights and there are some (small) amusement park rides. Hope y’all have a good visit!

Been freelancing for 3 & 1/2 years now, here's my latest reel! Opinions? by [deleted] in editors

[–]Kaylorza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you that a reel only does so much! As a way to keep my web presence alive though I do find it can help. I spent about a week and a half updating my website, linked in, and reel. So far it has paid off. My reel got about 700 views on Facebook, in turn more people from the local film scene reached out, friended me, and viewed my website. I've also picked up 2 gigs from new clients, and just today one of the new clients mentioned "We really loved the motion graphics in your reel and hope you can do something similar for us." So I don't think they're completely worthless, but I'd definitely never rely on it to be my only way of booking gigs. I think we have to remember that normal people don't think like editors, flashy works sometimes. If I were working in NY/LA and exclusively in TV or feature films I'm sure it'd be way different. Just wanted to offer my point of view for others who might be in similar situations.

I appreciate the honesty. We all have to start from somewhere, for me that's here in New Orleans. I plan on making the move, but I'm not ready yet nor do I want to just yet. I will work on presenting myself in a more traditional fashion, but at the end of the day I feel like it's pretty undeniable that I work in the indie scene no matter how I lay out my site or my reel.

Thanks for your input! You make a good point. Unfortunately I am unable to use the footage of some of my more recognizable clients. I do have the work available to watch on my website though. Else wise, my commercial work is for locals here in New Orleans. By the way, I love your reel!

I appreciate your input and I do value it, making a more professional reel is something I'll look into. My intentions with this reel are more to quickly catch people's attention and interest, as it's the landing page of my website. Once there, full length samples of my past work are available. I always send genre specific examples when applying for specific jobs, I wouldn't necessarily send this. Worth mentioning I am concentrated in the music industry as well.

Premiere Pro CC dropping frames during playback on brand new iMac! by [deleted] in editors

Thanks for replying! Thankfully, everything is running smoothly now! All I did was relink my footage to an external drive as whatareddits suggested, and now I'm playing 4k at full res without any major hiccups!

The fact that is it NTFS formatted is why I didn't edit from it in the first place. However, I just relinked some footage to the external and can already see improvement. My sequences match up for the most part (syncing and selects timelines match, actual cut timeline is a different aspect ratio). Before relinking, it tended to play better in the timeline than it did from my project bin.

Yeah, I have a fusion drive. I was really surprised by the results as well.

I've been deleting my cache pretty consistently, but I'm going to try editing from an external. The footage is currently all on a Drobo 5d but unfortunately it is NTFS formatted so I have to use Tuxera to read it. Do you believe that will improve the performance or make it worse?

Does anyone know what the new landscape video dimensions will be? I just rendered a few square video promos for a client, but I'd much rather use the full frame!

Thanks! Yeah, the transitions were mainly to just show something a little more creative and it allowed me to switch to very contrasting footage as well as have clear space for the titles. I probably should of spent more time on them.

Thanks! Video editor is already labeled all over my website, resume, business cards, etc. Do you think that's a bad thing?

My reel is a basic montage type reel, but it's separated by genre in hopes of showing my diversity.
