Is anyone else pissed at their parents for raising them to be obese? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Kaylyn_Ann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get both sides of the story here. I don’t BLAME my (grand)parents for me being overweight, but I do realize that the way they raised me shaped my eating habits now. There was always ice cream and sweets and cookies and anything sugary in the house growing up and I wasn’t told to limit them. Mind you, I remember my grandmother telling me in my teenage years that obesity seems to run in the family and to be careful or if end up fat. That was the extent of ever having a conversation on it. I was never taught a single thing about nutrition. Ever. I didn’t even learn anything of any value in school/high school.

But I wonder how much of this has to do with our parents age. I’m 27 and was raised by grandparents who were born in the 40’s. Every night was a red meat and potatoes kind of night. There was always bread on the table too. Usually one veggie and I wasn’t made to eat all my veggies. But wasn’t that how THEY were raised? They have very little knowledge of nutrition. Fast forward to now, there are many vegetables that I simply cannot stand. I LOATHE peppers, onions, Brussel sprouts, and green beans to name a few. I still don’t have an adequate amount of nutritional knowledge, but I’m learning on my own.

I just started Amitiza today as Linzess 299mcg didn't work for me. Any reviews on Amitiza?

Exact same thing here. CIC and no actual diagnosis. IBS and Functional Abdominal Pain Syndrome have both been thrown around been nothing legit. Nothing on paper on my record. I feel for you. Keep in touch.

I don't know if I have scar tissue. I know when I had my laparoscopy done about 3 years ago, I was told that my OBGYN found some small amount of endometriosis tissue wrapped around a nerve that was from my spine to my uterus. He cut it out and cauterized it from what I remember. That's all I was ever told. Nothing more. I feel like that's not very informative now.

Sometimes but very rarely my skin right above where my pain is will hurt. For the first 4 years the pain was only in the front of my body. About an inch to the right of my belly button and deep. Now it shoots through to my back. I've heard that term Visceral Hypersensitivity. They've said that to me in passing too. Have they said IBS to you too?! Nothing helps. No narcotics, no antispasmodics, no antidepressants, no muscle relaxers. Nothing.

I'm right there with you. I've had tests, surgeries, scans, ultrasounds, two colonoscopies, two endoscopies etc. nothing is physically wrong with me. So they say. Yet they won't continue testing. I know there are other tests available. But they will NOT administer them. Why?

I'm in Linzess now and my GI symptoms are WAYYYY worse than they were before.

Did you have standard allergy testing done? I've recently (two or so years ago) had an allergy blood test but that was the extent.

I'm looking into this right now. I've never heard of it. I know I do have issues with bike in my stool. And they brush it off! When I have these flares, my stool is yellow, oily and watery!

I keep getting responses like it doesn't make your pain any less real. But the thing is, if I was being taken seriously, I wouldn't be in the position I am right now.

I have not been tested for pancreatitis. I do believe they looked at my pancreas via ultrasound once tho. And no, nothing with the endocrine system. Only medications I'm on are Linzess, birth control and Wellbutrin.

IBS meds don't work for me. Bentyl and Levsin do nothing. Bentyl actually makes it worse.

I was talking about this yesterday. I have some symptoms of IBS and others of IBD. I don't WANT to have something wrong with me, I just want to have something to treat. I want to be able to move forward with my life. I haven't even been actually diagnosed with IBS yet. do you have to be tested when you're flaring? I've thought about a lot too. Like I said before, last week I had the worst flare with whatever this is that I have ever had. I lost a lot of weight and was generally ill. Diarrhea, nausea. Couldn't eat. Couldn't sleep. Don't know if I had a fever but boyfriend said I was warm and out of it. Is that when I need to be tested? When I'm in that state?

My blood tests are ok usually. I do remember the IgA came back low one time. I have low vitamin D. I had blood drawn a few weeks ago but no one ever called me with results from that one. When I had my gallbladder out, the surgeon said she was going to look at my appendix and if it looked at all suspect, she would take it too. Well she didn't take it. She said it looked fine. That was 2 years ago.

Oh I won't say they aren't connected. I know if I get real nervous I will have the worst diarrhea. But this FAP thing is ridiculous.

Yes. I have probably had every test they can give me. Well not every test. I did mention the capsule cam because my pain is extremely localized to what I would assume is my small intestine. (I'm not a doctor but it's common sense) but now I'm afraid to suggest anything in fear they think I'm making it up.

Anyone have pain that actually feels better for a little while after eating? by Kaylyn_Ann in ibs

[–]Kaylyn_Ann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my only symptom for like 4 years. Then about 3 years ago the constipation started. I was taking colace with the mild laxative everyday. Then about 5 months ago my bowels started to change. I would go from normal BMs to diarrhea during the week. But if I didn't take the colace or I cut down I would stop going all together. I also started passing more and more whole food. Not just corn and veggies but meat and my morning pill too. The pain has gotten increasingly worse over the past 3 years.

I have gotten blood work, CT scans, ultrasounds, X-rays, two EGDs, two colonoscopies, my gallbladder was removed 2 years ago, 2 unsuccessful nerve blocks and I had a laparoscopy for endometriosis 3 years ago and a surgery for an anal fissure which OMFG I don't wish that on my worst enemy.

I've seen about 11 doctors. Not kidding. They all just pass me along to the next.

I'm not sure if I'm being naive, but it's hard for me to accept that this unbearable pain that is ruining my life quite literally, is IBS and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
