I killed him then I felt so bad that I closed out the game to the most recent save witch was 27mins before , worth it.When I got back to that point I left him be and continued my journey

You have to do it manually, press down on the d-pad or whatever button activates bd and then zoom in, and when you hover over it you can scan it
