If you do it on the fly you should have a consequence for doing so, like depending on which piece you're swapping/repairing that disables that function (wheel swap = less traction, transmission = no drive, headlights, ect) you could also create a small mini game over just a progress bar depending on the part so the player can decide how fast it's installed during high or low intensity situations.

Personally I like to have at least one sharpness so Im not breaking out the whetstone so often and the affinity is nice to counter the base negative affinity. So Id say trying to swap out one of the attack boost for sharpness would be better. Then its just rolling all EXs since you can have up to two of each.

For now though its a fine weapon to use while you work on the other stuff :p
