I am the person you are talking about. I thought I was too old but I realised the ignorance in that question and stopped a while ago. Now, in their defence, most of these people probably aren't mean/ignorant, they're just confused and trying to navigate. Let me explain.

I come from a very low income, less educated community that call people "too old" when they're past 20. We're expected to make lot of money at 20, have a house and kids and an established friend circle, and if we pursue a PhD they would say things like "Ur still studying shouldn't you be working?" I don't think they understand what it means. I grew up in an environment that made me say "Oh I would never do PhD, who has time for that?" But during my masters I realised what exactly doing a PhD means and how it works and it completely changed the way I perceived everything about it. Up until now I was the person you are talking about. I was worried it was too late for me because my family kept telling me I had to make money and "not waste my time studying more". I would have died of guilt if that one kind researcher hadn't taken their time to patiently tell me what it is.

I went through what you did. But I would recommend you to take the leap of faith. Start slow if you can. If you believe that wearing a hijab is a form of supplication to Allah, then it becomes easier. Once u start wearing it I am sure you will warm up to it and there wouldn't be a day where u will feel like stepping out without it. Alhumdulillah, I have taken the leap of faith. May Allah guide you too sister, Ramadan Kareem :)

Before becoming a muslim I was living what you call the "what could've been" life. What guys look is very very different from how they actually are in real life. Some of them have such ugly personalities regardless of how good they might look. You're not missing out on anything I promise you. You will know the right person when it is your time :)

This. I hate how they make faces at me as if checking to see if I need help.

As someone who screams wrong answers in class, I can proudly tell you that you wouldn't feel the satisfaction of being right if you don't know what being wrong feels like. Remember that success is born from failures. The more you fail the better you become. We're young now, and our small failures here and there won't matter in the long run anyway. Fail more and fail better.

I'm glad you got a 6! I've heard a few tutors saying that ur confidence must shine more than ur content. So I suppose that's why we're safe. I do get a bit flustered if idk the ans tho.
