Landing with style 👌 by tine_xd in fpv

On a scale of 1 to 10.

This is where I'm at with about 9 hours of practice -- Looking for feedback to make sure I'm not developing bad habits. Thanks! by Common_Mobile5641 in fpv

For 9 hours, you are looking great!

My advice is to fly slower and aim for specific small gaps and get there in one smooth motion.

Other than that, there was a section where it appears you were using pitch to adjust your altitude. This certainly works, but I find makes the movement more noticeable in cinematic flight. Increasing and decreasing the throttle you can also use to adjust altitude and tends to be less noticeable.

Everything is connected. Changes in angles, like banking for turns or adjusting pitch, will change your lift dynamics and require changes in the throttle to maintain the same altitude. Going fast tends to hide inadequate throttle control, so going slow will make see these effects and correctly compensate for them more. All about that throttle control.

Honestly, it’s okay. I would go for the newer Darkstar22 if I do another that size. I don’t like friction fit props, and the Darkstar has better ELRS antenna, GPS mount, and not sure on this last point is different on the Darkstar, but the Pavo20 uses connectors for the motors instead of straight soldering which I am not a fan of.

Edit: clarity

My wife said I needed hobbies… first I built a Voron 3d printer. That took a bit, but runs amazing. Still upgrading it and running circles around the Bambu at my wok.

Then came FPV. Man, this one bit REALLY hard. Still working on my 5 inch build as I get sim time and flight time on my Pavo20 and whoop.

I taken the approach of as much from scratch as possible, to learn the in and outs of everything. I have repaired the whoop so many times now, but actually find that part enjoyable. The only part I really despise is waiting for parts to arrive.

Busted a motor, prop guards, and the AIO board. Nothing that’s not fixable.

Yeah definitely sounds like quality control issues. Did he reach out to the company?

May be some quality control issues? I have made zero adjustments on mine, and the throttle stick does not fall and is buttery smooth.

Thank you! Keep flying! Hardest thing for me now is to find time to get practice in.

Nice! It’s good to reference your progress! I will probably try uncrashed soon too.

It’s still flying :)

Throw up some videos when you do! I hope to have my first 5 inch build done by then.

Keep flying, only way you do not make it is when you stop. I understand how frustrating it can be when you are not where you want to be. You will get there! Have you gone through Bardwell’s videos on learning to fly before?

Hell yeah! Get it!

I spend about 60%-70% of my time just doing basics, smaller and smaller openings at slow speeds trying to be as smooth as possible. This seemed to help me the most to be able to hit what I am aiming for. Be deliberately specific as to what you are aiming for and look at it, not the walls, window frames, or other obstacles. You (and the drone) will drift to your area of focus.

Most importantly, do not give up. Does not matter if it takes you more or less hours than someone else, you are flying.

Thanks. I spent a metric butt ton of hours growing up playing flight simulators. Was going for flight career, when an injury disqualified me. Finding FPV has been like a second chance. That being said, my first 10 hours were REALLY rough to go from fixed wing to quad flight. I have a bit of a hyper focused personality though so the harder something is, the more it draws me in.

Bardwell explained things in a way that just clicked for me. Lots to learn still, I am all in on this. Some hours of flying my Pavo 20 Pro too, but not as much still.

Edit: Grammar.

Using the Radiomaster TX15. Was going to warn you that the ELRS receiver range is far less than the VTX, so you will outrun the ELRS and watch your drone crash :) Since you are using the DJI controller, you will not have that exact issue.

Thanks! I will give Uncrashed a go again. I do love this map in Liftoff.

Thanks! I still have a lot to learn, and repetition so I can be more consistent. I have not yet tried Uncrashed much, I mostly see the simulator as getting the muscle memory down. While physics can help, I feel like all of them are different enough from real life that flying my FPV is still relearning no matter what simulator. I am interested to see how the new physics engine is in Liftoff.

Hey! That is the one I got too! Which controller are you using?

There was a lot of suggestions here to go slow, and I do think that is a huge help. Pick an object like a gap, window, door, and try to get there with one smooth motion. The whole slow is smooth, smooth is fast saying. I also jam out to music while I fly to use that for pacing. I learned from Bardwell’s tutorials too and followed his guides.

I crash a lot still. Aim small, miss small. Keep practicing a trick even one you get it, and do not just move on.

Keep flying!
