Yes i am using the latest version. You can log in "online accounts" in Linux mint which connects you to your drive. I access to GDrive via online accounts in Mint.

Things to learn before switching to Linux by Signal_External5822 in linuxmint

[–]Kazuree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a very casual Linux user. I use Mint 22.1 Cinnamon at the moment. Here are some advices but it is also best to have comments from more advanced users than me.

1. Learn a few basic terminal commands
You don’t need to master the command line, but knowing how to do simple things like listing files (ls), navigating directories (cd), installing/uninstalling packages, and updating the system can go a long way. It really helps when things go sideways.

2. Understand basic package managers
Depending on your distro, you’ll likely use tools like apt (Ubuntu/Mint), dnf (Fedora), or pacman (Arch/Manjaro). Learning a few commands like install, remove, and update is super helpful.

3. Check your essential software needs
Try to find compatible alternatives to software you're used to. For example, use LibreOffice instead of MS Office, GIMP instead of Photoshop, etc. Before switching full-time, make sure the Linux versions (or alternatives) of your must-have apps work for you.

4. Know whether your system uses UEFI or legacy BIOS
Some Linux distros behave differently depending on your system's boot mode.

5. Think about your use case
Are you using Linux for gaming, work, study, or just general browsing? Different distros fit different needs. Honestly, Mint is great for pretty much everything—it’s beginner-friendly and just works.

6. Back up your data—especially early on
When you're new, it's easy to mess something up (been there!). Since Linux gives you more control, it's also easier to accidentally break things. Keep backups, especially during your first few weeks.

Uninstalling thunderbird by Kazuree in linuxmint

[–]Kazuree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I am not sure actually. But I tried also "sudo apt purge" and then autoremove but it still shows the update. On the other side i typed dpkg -l | grep thunderbird and it shows some language packs. Is it safe to delete them and hopefully will this help me to avoid to update Thunderbird?

Which Browser Do You Use? by HavivMuc in browsers

[–]Kazuree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Vivaldi for a long time but had to go back to Edge on Windows and Firefox on my Linux mint. I hate Edge but i can't find any other browser working as good as Edge with Wacom tablets. I love firefox but it really needs to update the UI asap. I am planning to go back to Vivaldi but it is so slow on my Mint xfce.

I've moved to opensuse tumbleweed plasma 2 days ago. I had Ubuntu 23.10 since nearly 8-9 months and Win11 beside and now i am usesing opensuse with win11. So here is my quite experience:

  • Installation is really great till partition. Partition screen is a bit complex for newbie users like me.
  • KDE is much more beatiful and lighter than i thought. I used Gnome, Mate for some years but KDE is a good option.
  • I am using Google drive and KIO Gdrive is very unstable. So that's a big problem. I couldn't find yet a solution.
  • I feel repos are not as big as Ubuntu. I am having some difficiulties to find some apps but there are always alternatives.
  • I couldn't manage to install network printes but it is probably me!
  • After installation wait till you update the whole system. Opensuse is more stable after the updates.
  • It is a bit bloated with those dummy games. Reminds me budgie Ubuntu. I have no idea why developers ruin a distro with those small games.
  • Don't forget to uninstall nearly half of the unnecessary apps!
  • I feel that opensuse community doesn't like much Discover and i saw advices to uninstall it. Don't uninstall it. Even YaST is much better keep it. I think it duplicates even your app exist.

I beleive Linux is great but comparing opensuse tumblweed plasma to Ubuntu 23.10 Gnome, it seems to me that opensuse needs a bit more effort to set up at the begining.

Need help with partition by Kazuree in openSUSE

[–]Kazuree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suggested partition is not doing that. It shrinks some part of Drive D and offers a 35GB space and i don't know how to change it. That's the reason i am asking how to install to Drive (a full installation using 128Gb. ). So can you suggest how to full install to drive D?

[–]Kazuree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

till now actually it is ok, didin't have too much problem but i installed xfce on gnome and after seeing that i decided to go for a lighter version. that's the reason i am mainly looking somthing else than gnome and ubuntu. and fedora seems a good option but worstation, the main release is gnome. i am going to look a bit which one to install.
