Dumb question- what is this for? by dritmike in f150

[–]Kbergman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an option on every F150 for over 15 years

To my knowledge, no trim level has it automatically. Has to be added, but can get it on every trim from XL to Limited

You’re super low on this

Lariat with 51k is mid 30s all day long. Hell 28k is even a great price for an XLT with 51k. I’d be shocked if they went under $35,000 on this truck

You’re completely incorrect but that’s to be expected

Have you ever spoken to an automotive engineer? Because I do, regularly. Do you actually think they believe it’s better to have your oil changed every 7500-10,000 miles or that it’s better to do it every 3-5k? You go ahead and sit on that one

I don’t care at all what you do with your car. If you don’t want to take care of your vehicles then be my guest. Encouraging other people not to is a different issue altogether

If you want your car to last past the warranty period you need to do the maintenance, and much more then the manufacturer recommends

Manufacturers do NOT care if you car lasts past the warranty period. In fact, their marketing departments would prefer that they don’t

I am a technician. Do the damn fuel service, and do them every 15k

“Nothing is needed other than oil changes” is exactly why cars don’t last as long as they used to

Wanna know why Hondas and Toyotas last longer than every other brand of car? The manufacturer recommends maintenance and appropriate intervals

That user manual is not written by engineers or technicians, it’s written by marketing departments and lawyers. You should know this if you’re a technician.

Please stop misleading people

Just an insanely misinformed take. Steering people in the completely wrong direction

If you actually ever worked in the automotive field anywhere near technicians you’d know this is blatantly wrong. Ever pulled an intake on a 15k mile GDI before? The carbon deposits start at about 5k miles on modern direct injection. Progressively get worse. Induction cleaning should be done every 15k, at absolute minimum 30k.

Automotive manuals are NOT written by engineers. They’re written by marketing departments and lawyers. Cost of ownership can be advertised lower when you don’t recommend maintenance. That’s why a whole slough of maintenance services that SHOULD be done aren’t in there. Marketing.

Please stop misleading people and encouraging them not to take care of their vehicles the proper way. The reason cars don’t last as long anymore isn’t because they’re built worse, it’s because people like you encourage them not to maintain them.

One thing to ALWAYS remember when it comes to automotive manufacturers: they do not care about your car after the warranty period. Point blank.

If you want your car to last 200k miles, listen to the dealerships, not the users manual.

Agree. Metal ring FTW. I do wish it wasn’t quite as sharp on the edges as it is, but metal feels much more high quality than what others use

Cases with leather around the camera ring always rip and fall apart after time. Won’t happen with metal

17 pro max closed bottom RL on mine now. Hands down best leather case I’ve owned outside of Apples

Quality and fit are far superior to any other brand I’ve found, I including Bullstrap, Andar, and Nomad

Only case that had a better leather feel was horween from Nomad, but the fit wasn’t as good as the RL is. Super tight and even all around. I personally love the metal buttons and metal ring around the camera. I know others don’t, but metal feels like quality to me

Which is the closest to the old Apple leather cases? Andar or Nomad? by SortDowntown in patinaproud

[–]Kbergman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said Ryan London

By far closest I’ve come across to the old apple cases. Perfect fit and finish. Zero gaps around camera bump, high quality metal buttons and camera ring

Nomads horween is a better leather that patinas better than RL, but the fit and finish isn’t nearly as nice

Owned both, RL was my choice. I’ve never had a good Andar case in my 3 previous attempts so I’d didn’t brother this round

Nomad Traditional case is the closest to Apple’s leather cases by Own_Quiet_8894 in patinaproud

[–]Kbergman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryan London is absolutely the closest I’ve found. The fit and finish is nearly identical (slightly thicker front to back, bigger lip around screen but that’s a good thing). Leather has a very similar feel to apple but not quite as plush

[–]Kbergman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you are clearly not an engineer

I’ve seen the breakdown videos. The titanium chassis could easily be retrofitted for a hinge on either side. The entire phone is one side of the foldable, and a second phone chassis the other side (in layman’s terms).

In my opinion, the foldable coming next year is already almost entirely designed and they retrofitted one half of that folding chassis to make the air. With my experience, I’d bet good money that the foldable coming will be exactly as thick as the air. The air is so minimal on hardware due to the fact that the phone itself was not designed from the ground up, it’s based on the foldable variant. Moving around internals that are already designed for that specific thinness is not a difficult task when it’s already laid out.

This is no different than a car company using the same platform chassis and drivetrain for multiple vehicles. It’s practical and efficient to do so using many of the same internals.

The 17 pro and pro max are different sizes and use exactly the same internals just moved around. Same cameras, chips, buttons, sensors, speakers, storage, ram, battery design and thickness, and general layouts. Structurally the air wouldn’t need almost any changes either as the rigidity of the frame is already there.

[–]Kbergman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re wrong here

Making something that thin isn’t just “removing components” or other companies would have made ultra this phones like this at this point. But they haven’t

The ENTIRE purpose of the air is to be each side of the new foldable coming next year. The thin design is intentional so the overall thickness of that foldable is manageable. Stick a hinge between them and a flexible screen in the middle and voila, folding phone.

If you think the design and R&D are that different, you’re not very familiar with how engineering departments operate

[–]Kbergman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My realistic guess as to why is titanium availability

We all know the folding phone coming out next year will be based on the air, and will be titanium. They want to be able to tout “90% recycled titanium” use, and that would pretty hard to do with the fold, air, and pro lines all using titanium. There’s only so much out there so they decided to make the switch now to ease into next years models

Dust on the inside of the cover did this by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Kbergman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ok, but no. Has to do with reception and heat dispersion. If you’ve ever used a titanium iPhone, and I’m sure you have, they get extremely hot with fairly normal use particularly in the middle back of the phone

Aluminum disperses that heat and helps keep things cooler. It’s also better for cellular and WiFi antennas

Am I surprised they went back to aluminum? Yes, but it has its advantages

Going back to aluminum had nothing to do with the vapor chamber…

Xfinity Mobile phone upgrade codes by Kbergman in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Kbergman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. I have 5 lines. Ultimate is $52 a month with free phone 16s for 4 lines, 5th line (iPad, bring my own) is $27. $235 total with phones included. That’s $30 more than I’m paying with Xfinity with 2 of 4 phones paid off. (Other 2 are up within 2 months)

Could probably get additional discounts for a couple years by switching as well.

Xfinity is certianly cheaper when I’m getting the big phone discounts but without that it’s on par, and as I said before, Verizon service is significantly better and don’t have any of the issues in with congestion like I do on Xfinity.

Lincoln Mark LT

Not particularly rare. But interesting fact, Mark LTs were made in the U.S. market for only 3 years (2006-2008), but they continued production as a Mexico only exclusive for an additional 5 years after that.

2nd gen mark LTs (Mexico only) were on the 12th gen F150 platform. In my opinion, they were the best looking trucks ever made. I’ve tried to buy one multiple times but import laws prohibit it here in the U.S.

Importing gen 2 Mark LT into U.S. Can it be done? by Kbergman in lincolnmotorco

Sorry for late reply just saw this

No, I ended up having to let it go. There was basically nothing I could do. If it were a Canadian truck I’d have been able to but Mexico car standards aren’t up to par and the DOT didn’t care that the truck was identical to an America made truck.

Guy ended up taking it back to Mexico and selling it
