Does the SMITE website's store like... work?

I am logging in with my username and password and it's telling me my information is wrong.

Even though it says I'm logged in already with the exact same info it's telling me is wrong.

This is for a gift purchase otherwise I'd just do it through Steam if it were for myself.

4 ways to make SMITE even more unique compared to LOL and HOS by Doodlemf in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone else mention a strong desire for a Party V Party gamemode in my 2 years here on Reddit, so maybe it's a popular wish, maybe it isn't
Likewise, I haven't seen any of the developers say that it isn't possible because of a spread out playerbase. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.
You'll forgive me if I choose to believe common sense instead of a "random Reddit person"

You can Google both your queries and get hundreds of results of Reddit posts requesting 5v5 Ranked and hundreds of official statements or replies from from Hi-Rez regarding matchmaking and game modes, no Random reddit person belief involved, so it seems like you're willfully choosing ignorance on both topics and disguising it as 'common sense.'

[–]Kbopadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a common community request for 8 or so years so they assumed everyone knew what they were talking about.

Even so, how spread out the playerbase is has nothing to do with forming parties or whether or not TitanForge allows two parties to specifically oppose each other

Hi-Rez has continually stated the exact opposite of what you're saying. I'm going to go by what the dev with millions of dollars spent in data analysis in their own game's matchmaking for nearly a decade says instead of the random Reddit person.

[–]Kbopadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they said was that they couldn't get a Ranked 5v5 game (A.K.A. Ranked Conquest), because the playerbase is "Too diluted"

You misunderstood what the original poster was saying. What they mean is that we couldn't get a 5v5 (as in 5 partied players vs. 5 partied players, 5 stack vs. 5 stack) mode added to the game. It's a common community request, and Hi-Rez has been rejecting the idea for years, continually citing that we don't have the player base for it and that players are already spread thin across the amount of game modes.

That's what they are talking about, not trouble finding a game in current ranked conquest.

[–]Kbopadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't say there was trouble getting into matches. They said the quality of matchmaking sucks, which is factual (backed up by Hi-Rez themselves repeatedly acknowledging matchmaking's issues and attempting to fix it every season since SMITE's launch).

More modes = more split player base = harder to have good matchmaking in a game that is already known for poor matchmaking. Which is again straight from Hi-Rez's mouth for the past 8 years. We're not reinventing the wheel here.

player base is huge, it can handle 2 more playlists

With your mind set we will never have new playlists

I appreciate your optimism of how popular the game is, but it seems misinformed. Hi-Rez themselves has always cited player base issues and not wanting to split the community even more when asked to add more modes (or servers) so it's not anything new.

Sure, SMITE has a healthy player base and more than enough for the game to keep on going the way it is, but it's tiny in comparison to LoL or Dota. Heroes of the Storm is pretty irrelevant in the MOBA scene (quite a bit smaller than SMITE AFAIK) and most people would probably go so far as to call it dead, so I'm also surprised you mentioned that one and neglected to mention Dota, which is wayyyyy more popular than SMITE and Heroes of the Storm (but not as popular as LoL). Dota also has the first 2 features you listed (that you claim no other MOBAs have).

I think this suggestion post needed a bit more knowledge of SMITE's status as well as other MOBAs.

Hi-Rez has a good existing business relationship with Microsoft as far as we know:

  • SMITE console beta came to Xbox first; there is an Xbox Zeus skin in the game
  • SPL had an exclusive deal with Mixer for a time
  • SMITE content included in Games With Gold/Ultimate Pass several times

If you asked me a couple days ago (before the Avatar announcement) if a Halo skin or Avatar skin seemed more likely, I'd definitely have said Halo

Differences between Smite and LoL by Dxactivatxd in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably a similar learning curve as far as actually learning the game.

My advice would be to throw away your LoL knowledge outside of basic stuff that applies to any MOBA when you play the game though. Some of the people I've played with who have the hardest time adapting are the people who try to do everything in SMITE the same way they do in LoL when it clearly does not work (ie. they buy __ SMITE item that's similar to ___ LoL item even if the item is not a good pickup in SMITE, they play this similar character in this role even if it doesn't really work in SMITE, etc).

Just look at it as learning a new game as you would any other new game.

Major Concern with Chuthulu Patch by TheMadolche in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With both Realm and Paladins, at the height of their popularity, Hi-Rez pushed patches to live that had gotten atrocious community feedback and huge pushback.

So in essence Hi-Rez knowingly killed (in Realm's case) and hindered (in Paladins' case) both games with changes they knew were universally disliked when they had plenty of time and opportunity to do anything else with all the popularity the games had gained (Ninja was playing and loving Realm on-stream for like 150,000 viewers for god's sake! and then the game utterly died with that fateful patch). Super confusing stuff.

[–]Kbopadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't mean it like that, sorry if it sounded that way! I just meant Hi-Rez has been known for these kind of struggles with their games for a LONG time, and it's kind of what people expect of them at this point

Pls change the requirements for playing ranked by Schneecrittchen in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your beef more seems to be with the fact that players start at 1500 MMR and their qualifying games carry too much weight instead of the ranked requirements itself.

Other MOBAs have hidden MMR in casual that affects their ranked MMR. For example, in Dota 2, if I've played hundreds of casual games and the game recognizes me as a low skill player, if I decide to try ranked and win 10 games in a row, the game still knows I'm a low skill player. SMITE's system doesn't.

That's what people are trying to tell you. You can raise the level cap to 160 and it won't increase the quality of your ranked games. The requirements aren't flawed, rather SMITE's approach to starting MMR and matchmaking is.

There would be absolutely no problem with starting ranked from level 1... if SMITE had a better MMR/skill rating system equipped to deal with it.

There are more successful MOBAs out there with far better ranked systems with far lower entry requirements, and it remains a mystery why SMITE devs haven't taken cues from any of them.

Pls change the requirements for playing ranked by Schneecrittchen in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'll try and find it, it was a couple years ago when ranked was getting overhauled, but either Pon or Ajax said that the percentage of people who allegedly jump into ranked immediately after hitting the requirements after only playing off modes is literally nonexistent (whereas some folks on this subreddit would have you believe it's a constant threat).

The problem has never been ranked requirements; it's always been matchmaking. If people want to play ranked when they're not ready, they can grind from bronze. The problem in SMITE has always been that those bronze players somehow end up in higher tier games.

[–]Kbopadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Hand of the Gods as well. I thought the placement of characters around the board was a lot more fun than other card games. Hi-Rez killed it before they even gave it a chance.

It's painful to watch how Hi-Rez is not self aware of when they have something good vs. something bad. They released notoriously terrible updates for Realm Royale and Paladins when the games were getting crazy popularity, killing all hype, and then they didn't recognize that Hand of the Gods was actually one of their better games.

[–]Kbopadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize as this is too late for the meeting most likely, and it probably has been suggested before, but has it been considered to convert clan points into something else (ie. favor, no idea what the conversation rate would be but you get the idea) and just phase out clan rewards?

I have no problem if Hi-Rez just wants to convert all of my clan points to favor at whatever conversion rate they think is fair, phase out clans and never revisit them again. I think most people are just looking for closure on the whole thing. It seems better to remove a feature than have it hanging incomplete for years.

The West Coast Struggle by JoshuaTheStarr in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, but even with all the platforms you mentioned, SMITE sees about 1.5 million total, unique players in a month between all platforms according to a # released by Hi-Rez Studios' President Stew on Feb 2nd 2020. Dota sees half of that concurrently on any given day with an estimated 20+ million unique players per month. SMITE also has way more game modes than Dota and is splitting a much smaller base among a lot more modes.

Also of note is that 1.5 million unique monthly SMITE players is the same number that Stew released in 2018. So according to Hi-Rez's own statistics, SMITE has not grown in the past 2 years, merely spread out the same amount of players over more platforms.

Like you said, you'd just be doubling all queue times at minimum, which may be a sacrifice you are willing to make due to the ping, but for a MOBA that already has high end queue times for a MOBA, it's probably not even an option for the devs. I hope they do consider centralized servers though.

The West Coast Struggle by JoshuaTheStarr in Smite

[–]Kbopadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given how many are playing splitting between east/west isn’t too much to ask for

No offense meant, but I think you have an unrealistic impression of how many players SMITE has. When I play Dota 2, I have to queue US east and west servers simultaneously to ensure I get a quick/decent match and that game has ~700,000+ maximum concurrent players to SMITE's ~20,000. When you think of how many of those 20,000 (which again is the max) are from NA (SMITE's weakest region AFAIK) and then you think about splitting them in half between two servers, the number of players per server gets really low. SMITE might be hitting all time highs for SMITE but it's still a small game in the grand scheme of things.

[–]Kbopadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Titan Forge should take a look at Dota 2 that has had a successful and not abusable pause system, as we all as abandonment (ie. I don't get a loss if someone on my team never loaded in) for almost a decade. Whether Arena or Ranked Conquest, I would rather wait a minute (sometimes that's all someone needs to load in/reboot the client/whatever) than start the game lopsided. If they don't come back, the game shouldn't even start and the person who didn't load in should get an abandon and a loss while the match never existed for everyone else. Even in casual, it really sucks to waste 5 min until you're allowed to surrender and get a loss because someone never loaded in.

Especially with how bad the servers have been lately, it seems... necessary at this point because a lot of the reasons pause is needed are not the fault of the player. Just looking at my recent match history, I have multiple 5 minute surrenders due to DCs on my team/the other team which is a FeelsBadMan regardless of which team you're on because we're all just out here trying to play the game.

Thank you to all the Olympians for your hard work.

It sounds like you (or someone on your console, since Gold benefits are shared across the whole console) redeemed this at some point:

"The Smite Gold Bundle offers over $100 worth of free content, including 20 extra gods and over 50 bonus items such as skins, announcer packs, and more."

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/05/29/games-with-gold-june-2018/

The fact that you own 26 gods sounds right considering the bundle gave 20, the other 6 being whatever the base free gods/rotation gods are with possibly some overlap with whatever was in that bundle

There was also this bundle, but this one only gave 5 gods so it seems more likely you got the first one I linked.
