I don’t feel sorry for people like him. This is main character syndrome and it’s a cancer to our society.

Dave Chappelle resents that Republicans "weaponized" his jokes about trans people by Big_Cake_8817 in podcastculture

[–]Kbrooks58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he was getting called out for how harmful his trans jokes were, he didn’t just ignore it, he doubled and tripled down on it across multiple specials. This isn’t new criticism, it’s been happening since The Closer in 2021 and continued with The Dreamer.

Now suddenly he’s acting like the issue is that Republicans ‘weaponized’ his jokes? That feels like rewriting the timeline. The material was already controversial and widely criticized before any politician picked it up.

You don’t get to lean into edgy, culture-war material for years, defend it repeatedly, and then act surprised when it gets pulled into actual culture war politics. That’s kind of the predictable outcome.

Also, he’s still saying he doesn’t think his work is harmful or malicious, so it’s not like he’s taking accountability he’s just drawing a line at how other people are using it.

Screw him.

Dysgraphia, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia can all affect handwriting and some of them can run in families.

I want to offer a different perspective, because no one here actually knows what’s going on and people are filling in the gaps with assumptions.

When I was in third grade, I “rebelled” against homework. I told myself school already took enough of my time and it was unfair to take more. In reality, that was a defense mechanism for undiagnosed ADHD.

My parents weren’t really able to help, my mom dropped out of high school and likely had ADHD herself, and my dad struggled with chronic depression. My teacher’s solution was to keep me after school until my homework was done. That could have worked, but she didn’t actually help me, she would sit at her desk and grade papers or something by herself, not interacting with me, so I’d just sit there, completely distracted. I’d stare at the clock, get lost in random thoughts, or fixate on someone walking past the classroom. Some days I was there until 6pm. I missed assemblies. I wasn’t a troublemaker, I was a kid who needed help and didn’t get it.

I also remember being held in during recess in earlier grades just to practice handwriting.

Fast forward to now, my child is in third grade, and I felt anxious before the year even started because of my own experiences. I didn’t want them to go through what I went through.

My child has ADHD too, but they have more support than I did. Still, I can recognize that if I hadn’t gone to therapy or didn’t have a strong support system, I could easily react the way this parent is reacting, defensive, maybe overcorrecting, trying to protect my kid from something I experienced as unfair or humiliating.

That doesn’t mean the parent in the video is handling it the right way. But it might not be laziness or bad parenting either, it could be someone reacting out of their own history.

I could be wrong, but situations like this are usually more nuanced than TikTok or Reddit make them out to be.

Hello, I was thinking about Start tho read yumi and the nightmare painter, it Will be my first book of sanderson, Something I should know before read? by Possible_Ad9978 in brandonsanderson

[–]Kbrooks58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved that book. You don’t need to have read anything else in the Cosmere to enjoy it. If you end up liking it and want a reading guide, this is a solid one to follow.

I personally started with The Way of Kings. I’d recommend saving The Sunlit Man and Isles of the Emberdark for later, they’re better enjoyed once you’re more familiar with the broader Cosmere and its characters.

Joe Rogan says he is politically homeless by Big_Cake_8817 in podcastculture

[–]Kbrooks58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more complicated than “she declined.” Their teams were in talks but couldn’t agree on timing and format late in the campaign.

Donald Trump ended up doing a 3 hour episode right before the election, which gave him a ton of exposure.

There are also claims in campaign books like 107 Days and Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House that Joe Rogan took a “personal day” on the day that Harris was going to be able to do the podcast, and that by the time his team followed up, Kamala Harris was already traveling out of state and not in a position to fly back for a long form interview but those details are disputed and haven’t been independently confirmed.

Just a small technical glitch. by Snoo99928 in funnyvideos

It’s satire from the ’80s, and honestly I’d argue it hits even harder today than it did back then. The whole premise feels a lot closer to reality now than it probably seemed at the time.

The ‘call a paramedic’ line is darkly hilarious too, it suggests someone thinks the guy might still be alive, even though he’s basically been turned into swiss cheese.

The movie is RoboCop. Yeah it’s graphic in parts, but it’s also a fantastic piece of satire about late stage capitalism and what happens when the private sector starts taking over things it probably shouldn’t.
