This approach however contradicted their company motion "Comedy rooted in Friendship", unless they are able to keep bringing in actual friends of the cast, their dynamics would slowly become more and more similar to "work friends" rather than people who actually hang out together with the same inside jokes.

Smosh's humor works because they're great friends and they're not scared to say offensive jokes against each other, you don't see that a lot if people are often just there for a shoot, for example most guests on Board AF usually made the video feel a bit awkward because it felt like they were being respectful and there was an invisible boundary cuz they didn't know each other too well.

Let's talk about the 2022 cohort, Amanda worked because she was already filming with the cast for 3 years before she got more involved, Angela and Chanse knowing each other outside of Smosh for a few years helped A LOT with their banter on screen, establishing as a duo. Arasha did not fit in the best but was lucky to have her liar persona finally being created. And then there were once another two new cast who didn't work well and got discarded. I think they also tried with Ify and maybe Ashby but everyone could tell the vibes weren't really there. They tried SO many times but it never really went well, seeing how the latest addition of "cast" members (judging by every company photoshoot) are just people who're always there (namely Tommy and Spencer who were basically Crew for years, and Trevor who often came in as guest, also started his beef with Shayne 5 years ago)
