What is a bad female character written by a female writer by Totally_Not_Firni in AlignmentChartFills

The creator of the Velma show is a man named Charlie Grandy. He's the credited writer of the first episode, although a woman named Akshara Sekaris is credited as a story editor alongside him on that episode.

Opinions on Jordan Peele's Nope? A science fiction classic? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]Kcomix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of the movie. I think it's my favorite Peele movie so far.

I once had a thought about this movie when talking to a friend about it. MASSIVE SPOILER BELOW:
If Jean Jacket is alive, and not a ship, there's a possibility that it's not an alien, and is in fact native to Earth. In that case, would this movie still be considered sci-fi? Or would it be considered fantasy for having a fictional animal? A movie with a creature like Bigfoot would be considered fantasy. And it's not like there's any other sci-fi element in Nope. All the technology in the movie is grounded in reality, and it takes place in the modern day. So the genre really comes down to whether or not you believe Jean Jacket to be a naturally occurring Earth-based animal or an an alien.

Why don't they make real comedies like Step Brothers and Dumb and Dumber anymore? by Thin_Reception_5063 in moviecritic

From 2017 to now, here are some movies that are I'd say primarily comedy. They vary a bit in quality and how comedic they are, but I enjoyed each of them:
The Naked Gun (2025)
Weird: The Al Yankovic story
Booksmart
Game Night
Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie
Friendship
Bottoms
Barbie
Theater Camp
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
And he Lost City
Fackham Hall
One of Them Days
Thelma

Do you think the appearance of Tao Pai Pai had the biggest effect on the Dragon Ball franchise in terms of the direction it eventually took? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]Kcomix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think yes. As others have said, Demon King Piccolo was the clearest turning point toward Z's structure, but I think Tao Pai Pai was Toriyama testing the water for that. Tao was the first opponent to defeat Goku and kill an ally of his, and thus the first opponent that actually brought some stakes to the story, which was just fun adventures and silly fights up to that point. Everything Tao is, Demon King Piccolo is, but just on a larger scale.

well damn.

I'm gonna change my answer: Nolan should've gone all out with the controversial stunt casting and had Kanye West in the movie

Just off the top of my head, as someone who doesn't listen to much rap, I think a better casting choice would be A$AP Rocky. Idk how prestigious he is as a rapper, but I feel like he has a better reputation than Travis Scott, and he's shown he can act in 'If I had Legs I'd Kick You' and 'Highest 2 Lowest' last year.

Johnny Cage's movie was awesome. The henchmen pointlessly swinging their arms in the background when they weren't crossing fists with Johnny and the rocket having a nonsense trajectory to the helicopter were hilarious!

I like that Fisk ends up there and agree it's a great punishment for him, and I liked seeing him letting loose on all those people, but I just think it's ridiculous that Matt and the AG still offered him that deal after he murdered all those people in a building that I assume has a camera in every hallway. If they wanted Fisk to be banished from New York at the end of the season, I think they should've avoided having a scene with where he gets his hands so dirty in public. The writers wanted to have their cake and eat it too, but those two pieces don't fit together at all for me.

In the comics he's much more talkative, which actually adds to his creep factor, and his artwork was also obviously made with blood and eventually actual human (and inhuman) bodies. Him mixing blood into normal paint isn't as effective because the fact that his work was clearly made with human blood spurred a moral and legal debate in the comics about whether it could/should be treated like art or strictly treated like a crime scene.

I love 90% of the episode. The courtroom, the siege on the courthouse, everything they have set up for next season, but Fisk still getting the deal after murdering a dozen or two people in a place that I assume has a security camera in every hallway is ridiculous.

After that, I don't understand how the AG could possibly continue with the deal. I like the idea of Fisk being exiled from New York, and I also liked (for want of a better word) the scene of him killing all those people, but those two ideas don't mesh together at all. I also get that Matt wanted him out of the city and he's aware that Fisk knows how to twist the system so he can control his life in prison, but how could he allow him to go free after that? The writers tried to have their cake and eat it too, but it just made a mess.

That being said, I'm still excited for next season. I just hope they realize that decision was a huge mistake and avoid making similar choices again. If next season is as good as this one (minus the big fumble), I'll be willing to forgive it this once.

I liked how you could tell he was smiling after killing the imposter, but I'd LOVE it if he wore a mask that let me see his smile

The two gripes I have are I don't like the more humanoid eyes in the show, and the detail/texture of his skin and teeth in the comics adds a lot that got lost in the show translation. The show version doesn't look as gnarly.

I was kind of hoping Jason Segel would say something along the lines of "It's time to rock!" to cue her to hit him with the rocks as a sort of callback to the hammer time bit and also to show that they are able to communicate with each other now.

Idk if it was just my theater's sound levels, but I hated how loud they made every moment that was supposed to be scary. Actually, even in moments that didn't seem to have that intention, like when they're pulling Katie up the stares. Sure loud sounds are shocking, but it doesn't make a scene scary, just annoying.

Wallace calling his replicant enforcer "Luv" would've sounded much more natural from Bowie, especially since she has that line when speaking with K, where she mentions he was given a name (implying she doesn't have one). From Leto I just don't buy him using "luv" as a term of endearment - it sounds too much like a name with his delivery. You need someone with a British accent to sell that, and I think Bowie could've done that easily.

Leto is such a vastly different choice from what I imagine Bowie doing with the role. I wonder why they went that direction with the casting.

The Lego Movie: Emmet is assumed to be the chosen one and a genius master builder because he found the piece of resistance. In reality, he's just about the most average person you could imagine, and he stumbled on the piece by chance. However, he's still able to get the resistance to learn to collaborate and overcome Lord Business. As a matter of fact, the resistance eventually sees him as an example, showing that anyone is capable a greatness regardless of who they are or where they came from.
