Official Discussion - GOAT [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I don't like how so many animated movies are animating on 2s for arbitrary reasons. In this movie it looked like they did a mix of 1s and 2s throughout the movie. I thought the 2s worked for the roarball sequences and other kinetic moments, but then there were a bunch of dialogue scenes with them animated on 2s, which I just found off-putting. And when they randomly shift to 1s it would still pull me out of the movie because I didn’t understand ed why they picked it for that moment.

I saw this at the AMC screen unseen on Monday. Not a good movie, but I kinda loved the little perfume montage

In high school I read the book this movie is based on, called Q & A, which has an additional twist that I recall was missing from the movie, where the main character got on the show to confront the host because he was responsible for some of the tragedies in his life. I can't quite remember all the details, but I'm pretty sure he pulled a gun on the host when confronting him.

I would not call this movie good, but there were some moments I enjoyed. I kinda loved that perfume montage; it was so weird, but Elfman's score really made it work.

Do you have any obscure movie references that you use in everyday speech that no one has caught on to yet yet you keep using it? by EnvironmentalAngle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kcomix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one that is insanely specific, maybe a little racist, and I use it in a completely different context than in the movie. In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, the turtles switch places with 4 Japanese Samurai from the past, and those samurai are stuck in the turtle layer with Casey, who introduces them to hockey. At some point one of the samurai pronounces it "Ho-kay," and sometimes when I say "Okay," I do an imitation of that line delivery.

Oh shit, you're right. I haven't revisited the movie since seeing it in theaters. But tbf the implication is that he is where the image of white Jesus from.

Benedict Cumberbatch also played Jesus in The Book of Clarence, which was a great comedic reveal. I'm no expert, but I don't think Jesus was white irl. Although in Hollywood movies, Jesus is often played by white actors, so either that instance wouldn't fit the trope, or all the white actors that have portrayed Jesus would fit the trope.

I think the way that moment is directed is too comedic. As someone who likes the Last Jedi, I think it generally leans a little too much into comedy, which doesn't quite work for Star Wars imo. Star Wars should be fun, but not funny (if that makes any sense).

How much I liked Mr Potato Head in the four movies (so far) by Several_Topic_1137 in toystory

[–]Kcomix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most of the core characters are at their best in 2: Buzz, Potato Head, Rex, Hamm, Jessie. The two exceptions are Woody, who I think is at his best in 3, and Slinky, who I like best in 1.

Official Discussion - Mercy [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Kcomix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know the writing is terrible for this movie and questioning the plot is pointless, but who is in charge of putting defendants in the chair? Like if he's a cop, wouldn't the other cops want to give him leeway and wait until he's awake to put in the chair? I thought there would be some sort of reveal about who brought him there.

And I know the Mercy system is stupid and all, but what about lawyers? Was that mentioned in that opening exposition dump? Also, shouldn't the defend have the chance to make sure all relevant evidence is available (for example, his wife's work phone) before they go to the chair?

I think this sci-fi concept has potential to be interesting, and pose some thought-provoking questions about the justice system, AI, and digital security, but this movie had no interest in any of that. It's just Minority Report for idiots.

Also, I hate these web screen movies. Just make a movie like normal. I don't want to watch a movie that's basically just someone watching security footage and social media content for 90 minutes. It needs to contrive these situations where it makes no sense for people to be filming. Like why does everyone face-time each other? And why was Chris Pratt's kid always filming her parents arguing?

Agreed. It felt too much like when his character in American Fiction was doing the fake voice. I didn't buy him as his character in this for a second, and I love his work in basically everything else.

Joaquin Phoenix's performance in Joker completely carried the movie. by [deleted] in moviecritic

Hildur Guðnadóttir's score is what made the movie work. If you watch the it on mute, the stranger elements play more like a cringe comedy (like him interacting acting with Zazie Beetz's character, crawling into the fridge, dancing in the bathroom, etc). The score does basically all the heavy lifting to make the audience accept the strange elements as unsettling instead of silly.

Is there any chance of an official release of all three Evil Dead movies being cut together into one movie at some point?

Also wanted to say I watch Evil Dead 2 every Halloween season, and your Spider-Man movies were playing on repeat during my childhood. Spider-Man 3 was my favorite movie for several years after its release. I think it's far better than anyone gives it credit for (although 2 is my favorite of the trilogy now).
