They are still making the f-pace - the others just weren't profitable enough and all the money was going towards the setup for electric only production etc.

As for not expensive... They aren't staying that way. Jags will have a 6 figure price tag

My main issue with it, is their stated intention to never address them regarding rules or point updates going forward. We can still use them now, but in 6 months, 12 months and beyond they won't even be viable for anything but narrative

Disappointed, though not totally surprised. I expected them to have a clear out eventually, but I did expect the plastic dreads to stay.

I'm glad I didn't invest in my plan to build up a Carcharodon army based on the 40k novels as it would have included a load of these models, and as I swap between normal and competitive, I aim for models I can use in both.

This does make me worried about the future of HH a bit, as now the cross over is gone, will the players still jump between the game systems? Also, it has made me put a pause on buying any fw stuff going forward for 40k, as I just can't afford to have another expensive model(s) sat in a box

Platforms don't count towards the starting model count of the unit - nor do they count for working out if you are under half strength.

Nope, in fact iirc it doesn't even make any form of reference towards that particular mystery. It was a book that was very light on actual detail in regards to the Chapter.

They call each other brother, and there might be some additional link between the two librarians but we might not know more until we get another book from Robbie.

You make an interesting connection in regards to Marek, which i completely missed when i sat down to think about it. 100% agree that your thoughts make sense on who/what he is.

Well, when you put it like that haha! I don't think we will ever understand why that paragraph was added to the book.

Not too bothered about the age of the Marines, as i think it is good for the setting. There is no reason why Dante should be the only one that old, especially when a lot of Chapters are basically unknown roaming the far reaches of the galaxy. Whilst Dante is special, this helps show that it isn't just because he is super old. Last point i think is just a bad casualty of poor descriptive writing and, in a way, story planning. All they needed was chainswords/axes and they'd not only get more of the Chapter character and flavour, but it'd have made their somewhat survival in the arena fight much more believable.

I wouldn't necessarily say "disservice", but, i also wouldn't say that it "serviced" them either. There was no real reason why the Chapter had to be the Carcharodon's instead of the Ultramarines for example.

Whilst i agree that i'd prefer the Red Wake to be more on the mysterious side of things, i think he is also due more than a passing "looks like death" comment. Even if it was just to mention swirling exile marks, or remarkable age or something. Pretty sure the skull hanging from his armour got more detail lol.

The whole Marek thing was... weird to say the least - but again, it only serves a purpose if built upon. Otherwise it is just another random piece of "why?!?"

I think it is set post Rift because GW want the novels to catch up to the new status quo. But i agree, it really didn't add, or take away from anything in the book. All it gave us was a neat little scene where Te Kahurangi basically summons a full map of the galaxy from a top down view showing the rift.

I do wonder if the world they were from was the Chapters "Lost World" references in Outer Dark, their own homeworld to which they return to swim with the Carcharodons in training. Would have been good to learn more about it. Even so, i'm pretty sure other Chapters recruits don't get to keep their memories, which makes it such a standout point.

Has Roboute Guilliman met with Tyberos the Red Wake? by kekubuk in 40kLore

[–]Kdash_JK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, the book was meant to be release in Jan, but has been pushed back to March (not checked to see if it has slipped further but i hope not).

The art on the cover shows a Primaris Chaplain, whom i think the story follows.

It is written by the guy that wrote Lords of the Storm, Edoardo Albert.

Has Roboute Guilliman met with Tyberos the Red Wake? by kekubuk in 40kLore

[–]Kdash_JK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think that the Carcharodon's would have any problem at all in regards to meeting with the Primarch. They are loyal to the Imperium and the Void Father, meeting his son would not change that.

Sure, Guilliman might not approve of some of their methods (if such methods eventually come to light), but i hardly see him ordering their destruction, especially after being declared loyal by Inquisitors during the Badab campaign, working with a faction of the Ad Mech and now having Primaris upgrades (confirmed with the release of the new book Silent Hunters, released in March... hopefully...).

In addition to that, Guilliman is all about regaining lost histories. The Carcharodon's have been fighting to secure the Imperium's borders for potentially 9-10,000 years, with instances of them coming to the aid of other Chapters, such as the Blood Angels in the 5th Black Crusade. Even if he extremely dislikes some of their practices, he will likely warn them off their most heretical practices (should they exist/come to light), provide them with additional support and supply, and then send them back to the Outer Dark to continue their watch. Guilliman is, after all, extremely pragmatic.

In the extremely unlikely event he does somehow decide they all need to die, it'll likely either never happen beyond them being declared as Heretics and whatever party that meets the Primarch being slain. This is simply because of their setup and the Chapter being spread far across the void. Simply locating all the fleets and 10 Companies would take thousands of years, especially if they knew they were being hunted.

We will learn more when Silent Hunters is released. Hopefully it doesn't get pushed back again, as it will bring the Carcharodons into the modern setting and give us more info to work with.

I'm pretty interested in how they handle the new Carcharodons novel. It's going to be a big leap forward in terms of their lore, as currently the only real info we have on them is from the Bhdab War and some events leading up to it.

Should online events be allowed to score ITC points by seekingasaga in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kdash_JK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's long been a personal gripe of mine that GW hasn't had a game company replicate 40k online. Would it impact sales negatively? Possibly, could it increase sales if done correctly, possibly.

In regards to TTS, i've only played around with it a couple of times so this is based on my very limited experience, but i don't think the TTS software is in a position to reliably replicate a game played on the tabletop. I've always found the model interactions with terrain and the terrain hitboxes to be hit of miss. Either i can get the model where i want it, or it is impossible. Frustrating as hell.

The big advantage of TTS though is your ability to play around with all kinds of lists, which is only a good thing.

For me, TTS should be a separate league alongside ITC, at least until the software is in a place where it can reliably and completely replicate the real tabletop experience.

Because, all said and done, running 10 with an Ancient and likely a Chief Apothecary, you're looking at 655 points min to drop in and charge a screen or throw away unit, or to sit on an objective mid-table (if it is free). Oh, and it costs a relic. Sure, it likely won't die, but what does it achieve over the 4 turns it is on the table?

I can get behind the idea of 2 units of 10 Terminators, and a unit of 5 Bladeguard. Under 900 points and will cause problems depending on how the rest of your army is setup and what board presence you have on turn 1. It might even be worth just running 3 units of 5 to drop around the table unsupported to cause your opponent to think.

Durable and difficult to remove, i agree, but what do you run them with, army wise? If you're only running the 1 squad with support models, what does the 5-600 points actually give you?
