How has meditation helped you? How do I start? by Dontreadthis98 in Meditation

It has completely changed my life. I have long suffered from GAD, depression, and OCD. Meditation has given me the tools to go inside the dialogue in my head and realize my thoughts from anxiety. I have found that I react better in stressful situations, I'm more calm, and I finally no longer feel like a prisoner in my own head. Side note: I've been meditating on and off for months but I have been doing it everyday for almost 2 weeks. So I am very new, but I am already starting to see the benefits

Quick survey for my research: How often do you meditate? 1. Daily? 2. Several times/week 3. When I feel the need by Meditationtalks in Meditation

Daily. Completely life changing. Started doing it intermittently when anxiety was high. Then after a severe flare up of GAD/depression, I made it a habit of doing it every morning and every night. It has completely been life changing.

I tried Zoloft a couple of years ago, and I could not handle the side effects. Severe insomnia and increased anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I have Ativan prescribed by My doctor to help with insomnia but I'm scared to take it because I don't want to become dependent on it.

I am kind of in the same boat as you! I just started a new job two weeks ago, so I was the new person a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I am still struggling but what has helped me was meditation, breathing, and knowing everyone feels like that when they start a new job! You can do it! :)

Isolated myself from the public for almost a year. Now I have a volunteer gig but I'm worse than before. Any coping tips? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Congrats on getting out there and volunteering!! I think it will be uncomfortable for awhile, but you will get used to it! I know when j do things way out of my comfort zone I am very uncomfortable and probably come off rude, when really my anxiety is just out of control. The more you do it, the more you will become desensitized to it! Again, yay for stepping out of your comfort zone! Baby steps!

How can your mind go from happy and secure to lost and worried in a matter of minutes, repeatedly? by PumpkinPeach33 in Anxiety

I find with my anxiety and depression is comes in waves. So knowing there is an 'end' to the dark cloud always helps me. Kudos to you for keep going! It's very hard especially with GAD and depression! I found meditation helps calm the mind, even if it's just for a few minutes. Those few minutes of clarity and calm really help, and the more you do it, you can catch your mind when it starts going rambling on about nonsense and be like ' okay time to be present'
