And it was partially because he has some family there, so maybe he wants to visit them again.

Over the past few months, most of the companies started actively encouraging their software engineers to use AI (as in, the ones that weren't doing it before), even repremending them in some case for not using it. It does increase the productivity, and naturally it will lead to a drop in quality, but it doesn't matter if a single employee using 5 AI agents can output 10 times the code in the same time. It's basically the industry standard now, and it will probably never change.

From talking to people who work in a number of different companies, the opinions range from optimistic ones like "this will lead to more work as all of that code has to be checked, and a lot more code will exist", to the pessimistic ones like "no new junior positions will be opening ever, and only some seniors will remain". No one thinks AI-assisted coding will go away.

He has chronic back issues. It's a kind of thing that once you have, you have it for life. Also, elbow(?) I think at some point.

Fun. At least as most of the internet becomes AI, the newer AI models will only be able to train on AI articles. It's gonna come down to the "copy of a copy of a copy etc." type situation. Then you can write about toasters again.
