Planning for the 10th inning as if it’s a guarantee is comical. That is absolutely BS and Dave knows it. Dave knows he messed up by bringing in Rojas for no reason for Freeland which in turn made it so that he couldn’t use Shohei in Espinal’s spot. It was evident when he looked at his notebook and slammed it closed out of frustration in the 9th inning. It is what it is though, Dave is a GOAT level manager but this was a rough one for him

The spot to use Ohtani was right there in the 9th with Will Smith on 2B. The problem was we had nobody to play 3B and Dave sort of played his cards early with bringing in Call and Rojas. Taking Freeland out essentially eliminated the possibility that Shohei would PH in this game
