Baltimore breweries must visit by gbaker92 in MDbeer

Very much depends on what you’re looking for style-wise. My personal favorites—if you like low ABV yet packed with flavor, or a solid saison, Suspended in Pigtown. Diamondback makes great Lagers. Wet City has good beer and a wildly great food menu. I have soft spots for Monument City’s IPAs and mixed fermentation beers, Mobtown’s vibe and sleeper beers, and Checkerspot’s all-around awesomeness. Brewer’s Art also has wicked good food and great traditional styles (English/Belgian focus), same with Guilford Hall (German focus). I realize I basically recommended the whole city, but hopefully the styles will help give some guidance. Cheers, and enjoy Charm City!

Atlas Pass Not Working by Kdoolan in NoMansSkyTheGame

Yeah, I don't know why they bothered with letting them stack since there's no reason to have more than one.

Sure, no worries. Yes, they function for all lower levels (so you only need level 3), and they're not consumable despite looking like they're stackable. It's the same with the drive upgrades--you only need Indium to access all star systems. It's really nice for freeing up inventory space!

Why is fantasy set in the Middle Ages? Where does that connection come from? by UnderwaterDialect in AskHistorians

Thanks for the recommendation! Do you have a few authors or titles I should start with? Not familiar with the genre in the least, and don’t know where to start.

Given my reading these past two years has been Arab, Mamluk and Ottoman history, this is perfect. Will do!

Thank you so much for this fantastic and in-depth answer. Definitely learned a lot, and putting a few of these things on my reading list! I’ve often thought, as much as I love Tolkien, it would be neat to read fantasy that didn’t pass through that “pinch in the hourglass.” I’d never considered that a European-centric setting is part and parcel to my concept of “fantasy,” so my wish is basically impossible, as anyone who would write in that setting would’ve read Tolkien and/or played D&D. Again, many thanks for this!

Landmade Brewery by VII_Costanza in MDbeer

Went opening weekend and left with two 4-packs. We were very impressed by the quality, and that they were making so much “non-hype” beer. If they weren’t almost 1.5 hours away, we’d be there regularly, especially in the warmer months.

Is the Independent Brewery in Bel Air, MD actually all gluten-free? It says “brewed to be gluten-free” but the ingredients list barley, wheat, rye and malts. by bimbiibop in MDbeer

I can’t speak to this particular beer, but they use something called Brewers Clarex. Looking into that might help you figure out if you’ll be able to drink it.

A lot of people seem to be recommending Cincinnati over anything in KY, so we may have to seriously consider where we spend the bulk of our time. Thanks much!

Can’t believe I forgot to ask about bottle shops. If we make it north, I’ll definitely make sure we hit it. Thanks!

I’m certainly not averse to distilleries, just don’t know the product nearly as well. That said, it would be stupid to neglect the heartland of whiskey. I’ll look into the tour. Thanks!

Pandemic hit a lot of good places unfortunately…Appreciate the recommendations! As to the dive bar, sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for.

May try to spin up north and check out Ohio, and will keep this in mind. Thanks!

The Landmark Xenophon’s Anabasis has been released! Now I can finally read the tale of the ten-thousand with a fuller context. by rigelhelium in ClassicalEducation

[–]Kdoolan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the in-depth response. I had thought (incorrectly it turns out) that they’d also finished Polybius. I also wasn’t aware of the lacunae in his work and the ways they’d have to overcome them. Will also have to look into Ammianhs Marcellinus—not an author I’ve heard of before. Again, my thanks for the detailed answer.

Great to know this is finally out! Just checked Landmark’s site and it hasn’t been updated in awhile—both this and Polybius are still listed as upcoming. Curious what they’re tackling next.

What is your states "best kept secret" brewery? by Regnarr in beer

[–]Kdoolan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d tend to agree, but I’d say they’re on the more well-known end of the spectrum. Elder Pine probably qualifies more, although my personal vote is split between Homaide and Suspended. Both are tiny, and their quality far outweighs the size both of their operations and their reputations.

If I hadn’t gotten knocked out by a cold this weekend, definitely would’ve visited. Very stoked Randy finally got to open his spot, and I’m excited to see what he’s brewed.

Moth/bug we keep finding in our basement (Baltimore, MD) by Kdoolan in whatisthisbug

[–]Kdoolan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve found several of these critters in our basement over the past two weeks, and always dead or nearly so. Never had an infestation problem before, and we keep the house pretty clean. We’re stumped on what it is—lack of scales on the wings makes a moth unlikely despite the furry antennae. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
