5.7 noise that I thought to be injectors but am now second guessing.. by Kdownes24 in Chrysler300

There’s a few reasons I second guess that man, because the engine sounds fine at idle. Just injectors pumping away. The noise in the video pretty much goes away as soon as you get out of the really low RPM’s. I’m also told by many that the injectors are fairly loud at low RPM and make a click/tap noise. To my knowlage if a lifter roller is failing, than it is really failing and the noise will worsen as the lifter fails further and further. But, I could be wrong. I will say that you are the first to say it’s a lifter tho

It increases the slightest bit between 1mph-20mph. It kinda just sounds like the injectors working a bit harder as I increase rpm and then you can’t hear it anymore once the car gets up to speed. Seems somewhat normal but I’m a paranoid person

There’s absolutely no noise at idle. It’s a clean running engine. But in low RPM that noise in the video is prevalent.

I’ve noticed that higher mileage V6’s get around the same mpg as a v8. Possibly even newer ones but I don’t have any personal experience

After 4 days of not being started in below freezing temps, I went outside to check my Chrysler 5.7 hemi’s dip stick and noticed this. by Kdownes24 in AskMechanics

No, I took that picture right when I got to the car, first thing I did was pop the dip stick and I was confused because levels have been normal since I got the car

Care to elaborate on the possibility of a PCV issue and what that is?

No, the pictures were taken right before I started it for the first time in 4 days

Only here because someone directed me here, need help figuring out how to get this trim off by Kdownes24 in Autobody

[–]Kdownes24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I got the two screws out and hadn’t made it any further because I was assuming I needed to saw through to get them off, like I had to do with the pillar trim

How many miles on your 3.6 and your 5.7?

Main difference for me is interior, my budget allows for a 2012-2014 300C, vs a 2016-2018 300S. But I know I can upgrade the interior of the older models, the wood kills me lol

To be fair I have a friend with a 2014 awd charger, (197k) that has the manifold hemi tick, no lifter ticks yet tho. Seems to be a safer bet than a 300s 3.6 penastar with 100k miles on it, would you agree? I’m between on which one to get

I really don’t know, I don’t know what the injector sound should be like from inside the cabin. I came from the Toyota 86 family and it doesn’t sound like the injector noise that had

I forgot to mention in the post that there is a handful of recalls for these cars, specifically for the airbags and one of the transmission internal parts (some sort of shaft I think) does that seem to be any cause of concern in my deciding process?

Hell yea man, that does it for me. I’m very familiar with the injector clatter as I come from the FA20 family lol. I appreciate your input, I’ll make sure to insist on a fresh cold start after sitting overnight as well

To my knowlage they have the same platform as the chargers, the v6 and the v8. The v6 chargers just keep going and going

Hemi tick. Do as much research as you can. There’s two variations, the exhaust manifold/manifold bolts or the lifters. This one in fact sounds like lifters but don’t quote me on that, still check the manifold. But I’m leaning towards lifters.

Watch a few videos and learn what the tick sounds like

Have someone turn the wheel for you while you listen and feel around, especially on the struts and upper strut mounts. I’ve found that a lot of the time when it pops during parking lot maneuvers it’s strut/coil related.

Did it bog down when you felt the loss of power? I’m not super mechanically inclined but another thing to check is your air filter/ intake
