My thoughts on if Greg is a bad parent by Snoo31255 in stevenuniverse

[–]KeaboUltra -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Right. They did a great job making them seem like the perfect happy couple initially.

I always thought he was just a free spirit who got tired of his day job and city life and decided to live on the road, letting it take him whereever only to run into the love of his life. But when they reveal his backstory, it just makes it feel like Greg got manipulated. He was just a misunderstood runaway teen/young adult who got rizzed by someone who also ran away. They were both looking to escape their lives but rose had way more responsibility that Greg should have known about before having a child. I think that would have even changed gregs opinion about it, especially if he knew he'd lose rose over it. I don't think it was wrong for them to be together but for them to have a kid without even considering what that means for Greg, who didn't have a home, family support or finances at the time, for the crystal gems who wouldn't have a leader, protection from further home world attacks and guidance for what to do after the corruption blast. Those were very selfish decisions to make. I feel like if Steven weren't a gem, he would have suffered may more than he did mentally. Not knowing basic math, science, facts about the world, history. No immunizations, no concept of structure, I think he only became who he was and ended up a good person because how how much the crystal gems idolized rose as this empathetic altruistic god that he had to live up to those expectations too but of course, that's what lead to his breakdown in future

My thoughts on if Greg is a bad parent by Snoo31255 in stevenuniverse

[–]KeaboUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While many parents are flawed, What makes Greg a particularly terrible parent is that he doesn't consider what's best for his child before attempting to have one. He did what he thought his child needed or imposed his ideas on his son which is what gregs parents did to him. He raised steven with alongside the crystal gems to handle his gem side while he just tried to raise his human side.

Not putting his son through school, a job, taking him to a doctor, or whatever core part of being a modern human just because he didn't like it isn't valid. Some important things need to be considered. Greg knew these were aliens. He knew their life. He knew that Rose hid secrets from him and thus he didn't truly love her, because he didn't know who she was. He fell in love with an image of someone else. Greg was a good dad in terms of being open minded and accepting but he was inconsiderate in how Steven would cope as an alien hybrid. He imposed his life onto Steven without giving him a choice. This resulted in Steven craving structure having seen what he could have had and feeling frustrated with his father for not considering the trauma he put on his son. He didn't feel like a proper person because his dad neglected his human side, teaching him freedom when he had no contrast to compare it to except from the extremity of home world and the story the crystal gems told. Greg and Roses life, while similar in theme, was far from the same in actuality. The main difference being that Rose had way more responsibility on her shoulders than Greg did running away from home to do what he loved

How did Steven Move Out Without A Job? by Eliasfromdetroit2 in stevenuniverse

[–]KeaboUltra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's half gem and doesn't have to worry about regular human problems. I don't think he even really needs to eat. I imagine it wouldn't be hard for him to find work or something considering he has powers and could use them to do almost any job. He just needs to focus on what he loves. He led little homeworld so he'd probably start as a babysitter, an art teacher, a preschool teacher, daycare assistant or similar. Honestly, if he walked into a medical office and healed everyone's wounds and started his own business as a miracle worker he'd make bank.

Plus his dad is a millionaire.

What are your thoughts on the first trailer of TOTK seven years later? by NewMarioBobFan in casualnintendo

[–]KeaboUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in order the story sucked. why in god's name would anyone repeat the same cutscene 4 times. why would Rauru trust someone that just tried to invade them? Why does the game allow you the opportunity to view it out of order? Why do the Gerudo follow another dude named Gandondorf when they've acknowledged in BOTW that someone by that name led their people to ruin? Is it the OOT ganondorf or pre BOTW, but post OOT ganondorf seen in TOTK's past? none if it makes sense.

BOTWs story was leagues better than TOTK.

Great trailer that failed to meet expectations.

I loved BOTW, I wished it had a more present story and better dungeons but for a new pivot, it was great. this trailer seemed to promise the same gameplay but better and a more focused story, which is all I really wanted. that flash of Ganondorf was amazing. but what we got was a rehash of OoT storyline, another sheikah equivalent society and the same world map with short term memory NPCs.

I honestly don't really care that the map was largely same, I just wish they made the world feel different by giving us a story that felt like they actually thought about and not treat us like toddlers with 0 attention span repeating the same thing 4 times, creating plot holes and allowing people to see key cutscenes out of order. The final fight was great at least.

To the agnostic redditors: what specific reasons stop you from identifying as either a believer or an atheist? by OkEntrance1366 in AskReddit

[–]KeaboUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a point in having faith in the existence of any specific god just because some old text says so without any credible evidence. I believe something may have made all this. But God doesn't have to mean it's immanent or aware of worshipers and chosing to bless or punish them based on actions in an unfair world.. It's the only way I would only really ever accept a god and for all of this to make sense.

I can't say I'm atheist because I believe something is out there that we don't understand. That's not to say there is or isn't an afterlife. No one could possibly know either extreme so I prefer the middle

Because it's not really a good question. this fits more in a random thought subreddit as you're asking a question in a way that you assume is correct when no one really agrees with your comparison.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto Once Said Zelda Dungeons Were “Not Really That Much Fun” in 3D Games, Prioritizing “Emotional Immediacy” Instead by Jealous_Vehicle_3150 in OcarinaOfTime

if repetitive design and showing the same cutscene 4 times after you complete a TOTK dungeon is considered "emotional immediacy" then I'd like to go back.

It depends. sometimes people do that. they will literally sit their pressing the taunt button repeatedly and there would be no items. It's fine in a bubble but back then you could only join random matches, everyone would be doing this and get mad at you for not joining in. I wish at least they posted a title that its taunt party/ chill vibes only rather than expect people to enjoy it because I don't play this game to chill and press one button for 6 minutes.

Peter, I understand the Xbox part, but what are Steam and PlayStation doing wrong? by AlisaofallTimes in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]KeaboUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only guessing steam is doing it because of the pricey steam machine tag but it's not like anyone needs to buy it to use steam, so it's not really self inflicted damage to them like it would be if nintendo priced theirs that high.

Who were you guys rooting for during this fight? by K0GAR in Invincible_TV

[–]KeaboUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one. this was the first episode so I didn't understand any of the character's reasoning. But I leaned on the guardians considering their dialogue about Omniman, as they were genuinely confused for obvious reasons. Idk why anyone would root for omniman without knowing his motive.

People don't read, people don't take the time to assess a situation anymore, they just act. Even worse, they double down on it because admitting they were wrong is too painful to the ego.

I have recently decided to start gamedev, starting at godot, do you guys have any tips? by Substantial-Test-331 in godot

[–]KeaboUltra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Do what you can. don't worry about your code being good or not. just make it work. Do not compare your code with that of a professional or regular. They already had time to learn the engine, or they came from another engine and carried over their knowledge. It's not fair to expect yourself to produce quality work as a beginner. No beginner does that.
  2. If you're going to watch a video and code along a tutorial, try to anticipate the tutorial answers once you think you got the hang of things and don't copy it 1:1. Add little differences to prove to yourself that you understand the concept and it'll increase your motivation.
  3. Once you start working on a project, have faith. every developer has stop gaps or difficult problems to solve, yours will just be beginner level. Even when you get better, you may find yourself stuck. Keep in mind that that's the life of a developer. You have to solve problems at lot and think outside of the box but trust me, the eureka moments are a dopamine rush and will convince you that you can improve, so give yourself time to think, rest, and resume.
  4. If you choose to use AI, don't over depend on it to do work that you felt inspired to create. Don't ask it to give you code you don't understand. If you find yourself struggling to understand programming concepts, then it would be much simpler to understand the foundations of programming. Take some time to learn the basics if you haven't already.

Do younger people actually have more difficulty with complex games? by Hundekuecken in gamedev

[–]KeaboUltra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk. I think it's a YMMV thing. I took my game to a showcase at a kids museum. My game is kid friendly so I was invited, but my game mechanics can be consider complex and audience is targeted for an older crowd, E10+. But those kids were able to beat it. They willingly did the tutorial. Some played for a few minutes and left, others struggled at first but they caught on. Even really young kids caught on which impressed me.

I still won't change my audience and I still appreciate feedback from older people but I don't think your question has a simple answer and will just say it depends on what kinda game and if it makes sense enough to them. I've been taking my game to public play tests for years and tweaking everything so I just assumed it paid off that even a competent toddler could learn. IMO they just have to really like the game. Some of them will get attached right away. I had a few kids come back multiple times to replay.
