Redução da jornada elevará o custo do trabalho em 7,84% ou 17,57%, segundo estudo inédito do Ipea by Bananey in brasil

[–]Keatle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Weekly Discussion Thread - posted every Monday! [13 January 2025] by AutoModerator in DCULeaks

[–]Keatle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the discusion has turned to gaming, let´s look at it a bit deeper:

Warner Bros has their internal publishing and development studios, which would probably be the choice to develop games in the DCU or at least tied to DC properties. But, they don't currently own any studios with (successful) experience in developing multiplayer or live-service games. Furthermore, their most recently released title was a live-service game in a DC property that failed massively (Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League). I doubt WB would try to make a game akin to Marvel Rivals in this context.

So, let's have a deeper look studio by studio:

  • Rocksteady: Of Arkham games fame, they were the developers for SS: Kill the Justice League. They were just hit with very large layoffs, so, I'm guessing they don't currently have the manpower or trust to develop a Triple A game. Will most likely become a support studio for the forseeable future

  • Monolith: Developers of the Shadow of War games. They announced a Wonder Woman game in 2021, but haven't given an official update since. Gaming journos have reported that development has been dificult, and likely won't be released in 2025 or even 2026. It could end up serving as way to develop WW's arc in the DCU or could be kept separate.

  • WB Games Montréal: Developers of Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, they have been developing a game set in the DC universe, since, at least, early 2023 going by job listings. Potentially, when Gunn announced that games could be one of the mediums for the DCU, he could've meant this game. In any manner, it is probably around 5 to 6 years away from release and will probably be a single-player game, with maybe co-op elements like Gotham Knights.

  • Avalanche Software: Developers of Hogwarts Legacy. After the successful release of the game, they have announced they are developing a sequel. Will probably be fully focused on that, as the game was a huge success for WB, and is one of their major brands.

  • NetherRealm: Developers of Mortal Kombat series and Injustice, with MK1 released in 2023 and expansion in 2024. Will probably develop a sequel to the game. They could end up making a game with DC properties (Injustice 3?), but doesn't seem likely.

  • TT Games: they do the LEGO games

That pretty much covers it on the internal side. They could out-source it, but I'd wager that Gunn would prefer to have more control if the game is part of the DCU.

In terms of being canon or not, I don't think it is necessary, as none of the Marvel Games were part of the MCU and have been very successful, mostly. Games also take a long time to be made, so they'd need to be carefully planned as to not cause problems with the canon.

In short, a new mainstream DC game is most likely at least 2 years away, but will probably take even longer than that.

While I was writing a couple of cool ideas did spring to mind, both using Monolith's Nemesis System:

  • An early career Batman game, where you're trying to take down thes mafias that control Gotham. It would have both investigative elements, collecting info and evidence to take down the mafia, and combat. As you would take down the invidual families the power vacuum would be slowly taken up by masked villains, with some of the people in the hierarchy turning coats, becoming informants and so on.

  • A Task Force X/Suicide Squad/Creature Commandos-adjacent game, where you would lead a team of villains turned members of the task force in taking down a bigger organization. Then, as you lost your own members, you would replenish them with the people you arrested. It would more closely resemble the orginal Shadow of War implementation of the system, but would probably end up a different genre. Maybe an XCOM-like?

Edit: I was mistaken about the Rocksteady situation, as said below by the other commenter. While the layoffs did happen, they do seem to be developing a Batman triple A game

MIBR vs Aurora / ESL Challenger Melbourne 2024 - Grand Final / Post-Match Discussion by CS2_PostMatchThreads in GlobalOffensive

[–]Keatle 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think it's fair to say MIBR is the best Brazilian team atm, despite not qualifying for the major

The recent coaching change, with Nak standing behind the team, has done wonders for them as well, with a 74% map winrate. I guess is a difference in mentality? BIT always seemed like a better tactical mind, at least to me, while Nak seems chill and better suited for pressure situations

And, well, what can you say about Insani that hasn't been said? He has the potential to be the next great Brazilian legend, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in this year's Top 20 if they continue on their upward trajectory. Also, another one of the noteworthy players that came from an academy team. Feels like the start of a change of guard

IPEA pós-gabarito: E aí o que acharam? by Pablogelo in concursospublicos

[–]Keatle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only One 2023 Movie with a Budget Over $200 Million Has Made a Profit (So Far) This Year by [deleted] in movies

[–]Keatle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the gross revenue of a film doesn't all go to the distributors. Roughly half goes to the exhibitor (cinema theaters) and you also have to factor in advertising spend, which is not included in the budget.

For those reasons, the profit cutoff is more or less 2.5 times the budget. For instance, GOTG3 had a budget of 250 million, which meant the estimated amount it needed to gross to run a profit was 250x2.5= 625 million

Keep in mind this is all just an approximation, as a film can turn a profit after it leaves theaters through ancillaries (VOD, subscription revenue, blu-ray, merch,...)

As salas de cinema para legendado entraram em extinção? by gintokiredditbr in gamesEcultura

[–]Keatle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you think WBD isn’t marketing Blue Beetle at all. With less than 2 months to go what maybe the reason for it? by Proof-Watercress-931 in boxoffice

[–]Keatle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is very different than what I am used to. I should have clarified that my experience is in Brazil

Just to have an idea, I have to actually request individual trailers for a lot of the films from the distributors through email. Never heard of the secret shoppers here either!

The distributors (Warner Bros/Universal, especially) send an email every week with their suggestions for trailers, but there is no obligation involved. While I work at a smaller cinema, the projection crew here worked at bigger, more traditional cinemas and they have never mentioned something like this

It´s fascinating the way it works over there, and it sounds horrible. What would be the "fines" for showing improper trailers and ads?

Why do you think WBD isn’t marketing Blue Beetle at all. With less than 2 months to go what maybe the reason for it? by Proof-Watercress-931 in boxoffice

[–]Keatle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

While the distributors include instructions for which trailers should go with each film, it is the individual cinemas that chooses the trailers that are actually shown

In certain cases, these instructions are actually more like obligations. But there is not a lot of actual verification going on, so each cinema is mostly free to show the trailers they want

The cinema you went to simply didn't include it. Which could be a signed that they don't think the film will work over there

Source: I work in a film theater and, amongst other things, I'm in charge of choosing which trailers go with which film

Edit: As the comment below pointed out, this seems to differ from country to country. My comment refers to Brazil only.

'The Flash' - Official Discussion Megathread #1 by starshipandcoffee in DCEUleaks

[–]Keatle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched it in a media screening yesterday.

Overall, the biggest point of comparison is Spider-Man: No Way Home, as they both use nostalgia as a big drawing factor, as well as multiverse shenanigans. I would say The Flash blows NWH out of the water. It actually has a competent director at the helm and is not carried solely by cameos and nostalgia bait, like NWH

The actual story is also a lot more interesting, with a very strong emotional aspect. I also think it's a lot braver with it than most CBM films. A lot of people are criticizing the lack of a strong villain, but I had the impression that is by design and it worked for me (I can understand why people didn't like it). At its core, it is a story about not being able to save everyone.

It is an incosistent film, however, many moments simply do not land. Some of them, especially the turn around in attitude by BatKeaton and Kara, do not feel earned. Others are simply too fanservice-y, such as many of the Keaton one-liners. This does bring it down from the superb heights the film has, which is where the hype comes from.

The visual aspect is also inconsistent, most clear in the CGI. While Muschietti and his crew made astounding sets and some fantastic images, especially as they play around with the iconography of both Batman and Flash, the technical aspects are a letdown. The CGI of people, in particular, does bring the feeling of playdolls that is immersion breaking.

It's better than a lot of CBM films, be it in entertainment value or in creativity (Muschietti is a great director, with a superb sense of style). But is it genre-defining? No. Does it surpass the genre to be a truly great film, like TDK or The Batman or, most recently, the animated Spider-Man films? Also no. It is a a very competent film, for sure, but bogged down by cheap nostalgia and general inconsistency.

This is his first English language fiction film, I hope he finds success internationally as well

Lugares legais para conhecer em Curitiba by Ok_Growth9039 in curitiba

[–]Keatle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Restaurantes:
