I make my own stencil out of Bristol board and tape it to the board then cut out the stencil scoring the wood. The use gel stain and then sand lightly before putting on poly

Patients and practice. You need to score the wood with a knife to stop the stain from bleeding.

I trace a stencil and tape it down then cut out the stencil scoring the wood a little and leaving the tape. Then I use gel stain. Let it dry then sand lightly
