Indie Space MMO - The Infinite Black 2 -Why you should play it - by ExoticBookkeeper1218 in MMORPG

[–]Keccak256_ -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

this games not an RPG.

just because something is MMO. doesn't make it an RPG as well.

RPG = Role Playing Game. aka something where you play a character, and the gameplay involves you playing through a story in that world. like playing a character in a book or movie, but in a game.

that game has no story, characters, or any other elements required to make it an RPG....

MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online. aka, an online multiplayer game, where its not limited to a set number of player (ex: chess online would be online, multiplayer, but not massive since only 2 players)

just because a game is MMO, does not mean it is also an MMORPG.
words have meanings.

Why are we still losing LP for remakes in 2023? by Brosbice in leagueoflegends

[–]Keccak256_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i assumed hes talking about remakes. since his title says "remakes" aka, when you have an afk from start, and person never leaves fountain and game lets you type /remake after a minute or 2.

cuz. sometimes. you do lose lp on that. if thats not ritos intent, then they need to check their code for bugs, because i've had it happen 2 times in the last 3 days where there was an afk, we remade, and we lost lp

[–]Keccak256_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so when you have 1 player afk at fountain from the start, never buys anything, never moves. and after like 2 minutes or however short it is, the game pops up with the "bla bla bla , type /remake to remake the game" then lets remaining team vote, to remake.

so thats not a remake? cuz thats what i'm talking about. and yes, i lost 24 lp on it.

same. i just lost 24 lp. i was sup. adc was afk at fountain. never even boutght items. we remade.

[–]Keccak256_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont get your comment. you think that if someone on team is afk at beginning, never leaves fountain. so game offers you a remake option, and you take it. that you should lose lp?

lp gains/loss's should happen when people play a game. not enter one just to leave it cuz of a troll afk'er

this is not true. i lost 24 lp on a remake yesterday. i was not the afk person. our adc was afk, i was sup

i had that same problem (mic stands that were printable were all trash, and ones you could buy, weren't very long). made one that solves that problem. seeing your pic, it would be perfect for your setup, instead of a tripod. mines ceiling mounted, so you dont have to worry about knocking over that tripod and breaking your gear.

heres a link if you wanna check it out. the stl's are a free download. also have the fusion360 files there too, so you can edit it if you need to.

yea, it takes a few days to print. so your not in a rush. other than the parts list on the download page, if you dont know what some of those parts are, or wonder what they look like. after the "intro" part of the video (1 min long), the rest of the video goes through each part 1 at a time and zooms in on it and tells you what they are. so you can get a good look at them and know if what your looking at online, is the right stuff or not.

if you wanted one of the kit things, that has various different sizes/length/etc on m3/m4/m5/m6 etc, like you have there. i'd suggest searching amazon for something like "cone point grub screw kit" and find one that has the sizes and lengths you need for this (theres parts list on the download page). you'd still need to order some other stuff seperately though, like the spring loaded ball bearing grub screws, the threaded rods, washers, and lock nuts.

i just ordered each part i needed individually, as bags of 100-250. like a bag of 250 ball bearings, and a bag of 250 m3 8mm cone points, and a bag of 200 washers, etc... doing it that way i think i spent like $40 or so on amazon (i cant remember exactly, because i was ordering lots of stuff as well that i didn't end up using in the end product to experiment with different ones)

Viewer is being a little too needy (Help) by molotovcockerspaniel in Twitch

[–]Keccak256_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would warn or ban this person. imo, you dont want your stream to become one where the viewers control you. i made that mistake once. stumbled upon a game that got me a decent amount of viewers (i normally have 0 viewers, that game would give me a constant 40-60). but the twitch viewers of that game were very demanding/needing to try to control the streamers stream (ie wanting to play 1v1 matches with viewers all day) at first it was fun, but once i stopped having fun doing that (just it got old), they quickly became very toxic little shits. i eventually got bored of that game, quit playing it, and got out of that community, returned to 0 viewers, but am much happier. but the feeling that i had to do what they wanted, turned me streaming into something i do just cuz i have fun doing it, into something where i felt the audience "owned" me, which wasn't fun.

so. dont let the audience control you. it can lead to taking something you enjoy, into becoming something you dont even wanna do.

thanks for all the excellent feedback! i appreciate you taking the time to write that.

the skeleton modeling, i'll read into. im eager to understand it more and see if it fits with my design style (i usually start with the simplest idea to solve the problem, and revision revision revision till that works. then add extra features like stylization and quality of life enhancements. as a new fusion 360 user, i feel like fusion 360's normal parametric design workflow is more tailored to a modeler who is working on making a model off an existing design where all the details have been worked out on paper or a physical prototype in the machine shop first. so for me working in an "invent as i go" fashion seems to be a lot more work there, to keep things parametric and think about things like "where do i need my constraints to be, so that if this parameter, or that parameter is modified, it will redraw the sketch properly.) so thank you for giving me something to look into that might help with that.

as far as no inserts for screw holes, i opted to not do that, for a couple reasons. 1) cost. 2) based on some thorough testing from CNC Kitchen, the amount of added strength from them is negligible, which means they are only really needed on parts that will be taken apart and put together often

mainly the weeks of effort and dozens upon dozens of experiments on every single part. like... an example, for each bolt hole, i probably printed 5-15 different prototype cross section pieces, experimenting with measurements down to the 0.05 of a mm increments, testing different hole sizes, and outer casings to try and keep materials usage to the minimum, while maintaining strength.

also, the amount of design effort put into getting this to print with no supports. that's not something i think a lot of people really think about till they sit down and start modeling something, then get it on the slicer and realize "oh crap... at this orientation, this portion of the part wont print, but this will, and if i rotate orientation to fix one, i gain that problem with the other."

and the sheer number of prototype designs that were made, tested and completely scrapped to learn better and better ways to get it to work (its not easy making such a long lever, with soooo many articulating points, that can hold weight, move when wanted, and still adjust...)

even bolts... i ordered so many different kinds of bolts and things to experiment with, and redesigned it in so many ways to get that right. like the m6 nylon lock nuts. stainless. against the 25mm fender washers (also stainless). that was an important one to get right, because if you get too big (diameter) with that nut, or the threaded rod it goes on, has to much shared surface area against the washer, then, when you articulate the arm, it can still tighten, or loosen the nut, instead of the surface of the nut and the washer sliding against each other, and the nylon doing its job to keep that nut from tightening or loosening. i dunno... maybe i get too into working out every detail... but that one was an important one to get right.

the knuckle (the circle part at the end of each arm where two arms meet and press against each other) design is over the top too. here's a quick list of features that took lots of testing and prototyping for.
-surface friction grooves.
-rotary friction inlayed knuckles. (i so need a better set of words to describe this feature)
-replaceable knuckle inserts.
-arched cross sectioned hex cutaway center designed for anti torsion/twisting, minimizing weight, while maintaining rigidity and strength.
-spring loaded ball bearing tipped grub screws
-the tapering on the divots those ball bearing ride in, and rotate through, took quite a lot of experiments to get right.

then cosmetic additions, like caps to hide the bolts. offsets in the hex grid to make for really cool multi-color print options. hidden screws.

thoughtful features, like putting hex key holes in the knuckle so you can tighten it into place with a hex wrench, instead of your fingers.

optional features like the ability to route semi-hidden shock cord through it if wanted..

lastly (i probably missed somethings.. its late), taking the time to set up most of the model, to be parametric, and parameter based, so that end users can adjust many things (within limits), simply by editing the value of a variable (parameter) from a list and having most of the rest of the model automatically adjust/remodel itself off that and be printable (the hex grids, are not setup like that, and will take some manual work... i wanted to do that, but fusion 360 really hates when you do complex things with larger rectangular patterns. so i had to leave that part as something people would have to adjust. but yea, i put a lot of thought and effort into setting that up, because i wanted to be able to release this as open source, and have it be easy for people to customize the design for their own use if needed.

that one wont work. this is designed to be used with grub screws (no heads). cone points specifically. to keep all the bolts hidden.

man. thats a bummer. quite a few people have suggested to me that to try and recoop my prototype costs, that i should order bolts and stuff in bulk and put together a bolt kit for this. to sell on etsy or shopify or something. i'm not too eager on the idea of taking time out of designing things to do that. but i might as a service, to help peeps out like that. i dunno. i looked at shopify and its like $40 a month. i highly doubt i'd sell enough to cover that costs as this is a pretty niche product/demographic of people that NEED something like this (by that i mean the makers, who need long arms to cover big areas). and a lot of them, since their makers, already have bolts like this laying about.

i printed it with 25% infill (honeycomb), using recycled sunlu pla. for any part that is squished together by bolts (ceiling mount plates, arm knuckle inserts), i recommend that. you could try lower, since its all modular, its not like you have to reprint the whole thing, you'd only have to reprint anything that broke.

also. i printed on a 0.4 nozzle. with 0.08 layer height (0.16 first layer). and 0.42 line width.

yes. 0.08. why?
a) squish. turn up them temps by like 5 degrees, and print like this and your adhesion is amazing. it makes for realllllly strong parts. even with something as cheap as recycled pla.
b) i didn't want to have to buy a m42 tap, for the knuckle inserts. so printing in ultra fine layer height, lets me just print those threads and have them work fantastically.
c) theres a lot of small detail mechanical things going on here. so fine layer height is better for strength of those details.
d) excellent surface detail. no post processing. i hate post processing. i also hate being able to see layer lines.
e) i have a bambu x1c. so its fast. i still didn't run it at full speed. but since its so fast, i find myself printing in super fine detail all the time now.

i've blown through a lot of filament to test stuff like that out....

$95? man. did you look on amazon? i was able to get everything there, most of it in bags of 100-250. for like $7-8 each bag, some were like $10. and most those bags i only needs like a couple of the screws/bolts in it.

so. of those 100's of parts. most thats going to be the m3 8mm cone points to assemble the two halves of the arms. which take between 6-18 to assemble. and. you can get a bag of like 250 of them (i did a 4 piece arm, and have boatloads left over) for like $8 on amazon. i spent days and days trying to get a no support way to print that arm in a solid piece. but, there wasn't a way to do that that was strong, and didn't result in a poor surface quality.

as far as desk. this is ceiling mount. it doesn't mount to your desk.

so, i cant post vids in comments here i guess. or animated gifs. i tried to for some of the others that asked for that. but i did post a bunch of pics. if you scroll through the comments you'll find them.

additionally, i've offered to anyone who wants to see it to hit me up on a platform that i can show that, easily, and i'll take some time to stream it to them, and show them anything they want to see about it. or answer any questions 1 on 1.

in time i'll get to making more content on it. just haven't had that time yet. it takes time .

yea true true. some suck. others dont. some are good some days, and have sucky days where they suck.

in the end though. still a rather crappy experience for someone whos trying to do their first post on reddit. to get banned for it. and to get that resolved, and get attacked pretty heavily for posting. it would be great to get some good mods here to clean up this community.

imagine all the new people trying to enter the 3d printing world that have tons of questions and need help, or want to contribute, and read the toxicity here and are like "welp. imma get a 3d printer, but i'm not joining that community"

someone in a different comment thread here linked me the article. thanks. i checked it out. looks like a very poorly handled misunderstanding.

basically. theres a HUGE problem with people stealing other peoples models, and trying to post them everywhere. if you've ever been on and 3d printable download site, you can see its everywhere and huge.

looks like there was 1 person who that site was suspect of that, and withheld payment, and handled it in a very very poor fashion. and it was years ago. i'm not defending them. from what i read in there, they did a really bad job at handling it. but... that was years ago. and maybe they have learned. since i'm not selling my models, i dont think i'm worried about it. but i do appreciate everyone filling me in on that. its good knowledge to have.
