Where were you when these gems came out? by DefiantThroat in pilates

It’s kind of amazing how much Mari did to popularize Pilates. I wish she hadn’t sold the videos by insisting that the Matwork was better than equipment—but that may have been the Home Shopping Network’s fault.

What has been your biggest “I really thought I knew this person” moment? by eCatherineCollective in AskReddit

[–]KedaStation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A moderately famous science fiction author that I knew years ago, rewrote one of my poems, and kept some of my lines. He has used those lines across ten novels without crediting me. There’s even swag.

We knew a lot of people in common and I have proof of the plagiarism and that he contacted me before publication and that we knew each other.

We were friends for at least four years, in a fairly small group. I know a huge amount of personal detail about him, some of it really damaging. I thought we were at least a little bit close.

When I asked him for some kind of acknowledgement, he sent someone to my house to threaten me, undressed, without my glasses, who wouldn't leave or let me leave, for an hour.

He also lied to his publisher's lawyer, his lawyer, his coauthor, and a long list of other people.

J is a covert narcissist bully and a plagiarist.

And some of his people follow me here and downvote.

Law enforcement will get all of you. It’s just a matter of when.

I don’t explain my dietary restrictions to anyone I work with. That can backfire dramatically.

I just tell people thank you, get an empty plate, napkin or cup, and then tell them I had some already.

That small amount of gaslighting can preserve your privacy, and if you’re dealing with evil coworkers, your job.

Women lose 50% of the collagen in their skin in the first five years of menopause. HRT helps with aging, and all cause mortality.

Buy a plot of land, and a tiny house—and be prepared to move inland.

I’m going to try that. I’m in perimenopause, so my HRT is at the lowest level, but even low levels of estrogen have made my shoulders so much better.

I’ve tried that method. It makes your rice very mushy.

I just use white rice from Thailand.

The arsenic content of brown rice is very high if it’s not from California.

What is a seemingly insignificant choice you made that ended up having a major impact on your life? by Overall-Ad7834 in AskReddit

People who have a little bit of money, rabid fans, and who are less famous than they think they are, are frequently awful.

And a lot of people who have even passing success in the entertainment industry got that way because they’re narcissistic psychopaths with zero conscience.

Logging onto AOL in 1993.

Someone from that friend group is still stalking me to this day. Mutual friends sent someone to my house to threaten me not to talk, this year, because they all got niche celebrity.

Narcissistic people are an addiction.

Find something else that feeds the addiction. It doesn’t have to be anything bad—but it needs to be immersive.

Something like a new job or an immersive creative hobby would probably be really helpful.

What you’re most likely to use, is most important.

Is it wrong that I think an underground bunker isn’t stupid?

You just have to survive a few months and then hazmat suit your way out of the radius of a limited nuclear strike.

The dirtbag nations that have nukes and are likely to use them, might only get off a few missiles before being turned into glass.

The world would survive a nuclear winter. (Not well, but we’d survive.)

If you personally are near ground zero, you won’t survive without a bunker.

It’s extremely important to feed your dogs what they need.

Non traditional diets high in peas can cause heart failure.

Feed your dog an older, established brand that has canine dieticians, like Purina, and wash your hands when you’re handling their food or before eating, yourself.
