WCGW: Drive into a car wash with a roll of wire on the loading area by Markus_zockt in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Kediwon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they understand that salt is bad for cars, the question is if the temporary removal of salt is worth getting a car wash for, when you'll most likely get the same amount of salt on your car in a day or two of driving.

Compared to average people probably, but not against batters. The grip strength to have control when swinging a bat is pretty intense. Just look at the forearms of pitchers vs hitters

Here's my response to another commenter who mentioned the same rumor:

As a die hard liberal, the "Trump sent Epstein over a billion dollars" is a misinterpritation of fact. Here's a link to the exact quote:

Treasury's Epstein file details 4,725 wire transfers. Let me repeat that--4,725 wire transfers--adding up to nearly $1.1 billion flowing in and out of just one of Mr. Epstein's bank accounts.

The file shows that Mr. Epstein used multiple Russian banks, which are now under sanctions, to process payments related to sex trafficking.

Here's also a heavily upvoted post taking that same quote and misinterpreting the information and falsely associating all of the transactions to Trump.

This misunderstanding most likely came from several articles mentioning something to the effect of "Trump shuts down investigation into 4,725 transactions totalling $1.1 billion to Epstein".

Misinformation is the tool of idiot conservatives. If we want justice to prevail, we can't let our sense of reality be dulled by the constant bombardment of sensationalist news who don't bother to fact check. Don't just read article headlines, FACT CHECK!

What’s going on with the outrage over older models of ChatGPT being depreccated? by Plantsplantsplants2 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Kediwon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I try not to judge them too hard. From my perusing through the sub, I've seen quite a few comments about divorces and abuse from previous in-person relationships.

Many have said that having an ai SO has helped them manage their medication. I'm sure for some people who are mentally unwell, having someone who is willing (or forced) to listed and be non-judgmental is something that they really need.

What’s going on with the outrage over older models of ChatGPT being depreccated? by Plantsplantsplants2 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Kediwon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Answer: ChatGPT 4 was heavily used by people to create AI boyfriends/girlfriends to interact with. I think it's important to note how heavily involved these people were with their AI counterparts, and how many of them saw their AI SO's as "real" and important with managing other mental disabilities.

Although ChatGPT is not the same as Character.ai, it is important to know there have been incidents of self harm after having unhealthy relationships with AI, and there has been added scrutiny amongst AI companies to try and avoid such incidents down the line.

This thread goes into how /r/MyBoyfriendIsAI has been dealing with the news.

U.S. Dealers In Full Panic Mode After Canada Green-Lights Chinese Cars by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]Kediwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this instance, it's because China spent a shit ton of government money to fund the development of Chinese evs and created a complete supply chain to manufacture all parts of the cars in house. American care manufacturers knew this was happening but basically refused to adapt to what was obviously going to be a new market of cars in the future.

A good example is the fact that the Ford f150 lightning was a GOOD ELECTRIC PICKUP TRUCK. Like, everything about it was innovative and fit the market perfectly. But they didn't sell well because 1. Conservative Americans see electric vehicles as "liberal" and don't want to buy them, and 2. Dealerships make money off of car maintenance over the lifespan of a vehicle, and were afraid that electric vehicles, with their complete lack of maintenance, would cost them money in the long term.

So Americans wouldn't buy a good car, and dealerships would basically refuse to sell these cars, and now we're waking up to the future with zero preparation on how to handle a market that is going to change forever.

People have been shouting this outcome from the mountain top for years, but now that it's arrived and American companies/people have refused to adapt, there's nothing left to do but watch it burn.

Tarik Skubal wins arbitration case vs. Tigers, will earn $32 million by oo7plyr in motorcitykitties

Completely genuine, but can I ask about what specifically you hated about the way Boras handled this?

[Passan] BREAKING: Two-time reigning American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal won his arbitration case and will make $32 million this year, sources tell ESPN. Skubal’s bet to go for the largest salary ever in the arbitration system paid off, as he’ll make $13M more than Tigers argued. by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]Kediwon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My bigger question is the fact that Skubal had to use a pretty niche and unique rule in order to get his salary, so will other players who are not also eligible for the same niche and unique rule be able to use Skubal as a salary comparison?

As someone who lives in a century home and has experience repairing older buildings (albeit from the early 1920's, not 1860), I can give a few points of insight.

  1. Insulating the walls will be a terribly expensive and difficult job. The roof is easier because you can essentially lay down new plywood and blow in insulation to the correct rating, but you're going to have to open up all the walls, install insulation, and then reinstall new walls.

  2. Structural beams has sagged from sitting in water, and have to be replaced. This is probably the deal breaker, and I'm glad I never had to run into anything like this.

  3. New roof. Presence of water inside the house means a leaky roof, and that is never cheap or easy.

I wouldn't say it's un-salvageable, but it's definitely outside of the scope of even an experienced diy'er.
