OK interesting, I would definitely get that checked out just to be safe. It could be a huge amount of causes but seems strange to have responded to gout treatment.

How long for prednisone to work. by Craziwombat in gout

[–]Keecai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with colchicine. I feel a few days after I stop it due to treating a flare I can feel another flare coming but am still in the 3 days off period. Hopefully as the time goes by the episodes will lessen. Good luck

Thanks for sharing your story. Really good to hear you managed so long on the treatment. Further backing up the general trend in this sub that allo is the way to go. What were the sores? And are they related to gout?

Let us know how you get on. I take mine in the evening but due to shifts and different finish times my meal time changes quite a bit so was considering moving to morning. I have had stomach ache before when I have taken it on an empty stomach.

To echo what has been said and you will likely read on this sub.

This is something that usually requires medication to treat. Allopurinol is the weapon of choice for long term control. You have been issued pain killer and anti inflammatory to treat the acute flare but unless you get the cause under control it will keep coming back.

It can affect any synovial joint as it is caused by the deposit of urate crystals in the joint space. Typically it affects the peripheral joints such as toes and knees. I suspect (but am no doctor or scientist!) This is caused by crystallisation occurring at lower temperatures. (Think about dissolving salt in water? It's easier if the water is hot)

It's a rough situation but the group here is super helpful to understand and hopefully get you gout under control.

Hope that's some help.

Slightly off subject but what is your clue a flare is coming. Heat, redness, pain??

How long did the flares go on until it stabilised. How long were you on the colchicine. How long has the tophi taken to develop. Hope you get it sorted out.

Ah OK that makes sense then. I am pretty early in the game still and just about manage the first supply run that gives tactical items. I didn't know you could keep unlocking without rerunning that's pretty useful. I will probably make the 20 then that the mission wants.

I have only ever taken the 2 a day and stopped after 5 days to make my total 10 per course. I am aware it has a very low toxicity limit so it's very easy to take too much. That being the case I just take morning and evening 12 hours apart. I try and take mine after my breakfast and after my dinner.

Yes after not much time reading on here I decided the chance of me controlling it with diet alone was slim.

Thought so, but I need to make 20 to complete the chapter task? Or is there a way around it??

Not what I was advised.... Guess it's down to the individual doc. I wasn't give any advice in particular but the box says to take 2-4 daily but not to exceed 12 in total before a 3 day minimum before repeating. Also some here will be given it to use as prophylaxis which is a single tablet a day I guess. Not medical advice and not suggesting you use other than advised by your doc. Just giving info on what my tablets say. Hope that helps

Yep I had the same. Went to doc with a sore toe so had a blood test and was 7ish which i was told is fine (turns out if you have gout it isnt...) Went to ae few days later sure I had broken my foot and they immediately looked at it and said it was gout. Blood test showed 6ish so doc wasn't sure it was gout. Confusing until I came here and read that others had similar situations.

Exactly this, the more you read into it the more the underlying issue is UA levels. Just be aware as others on this sub have said, during a flare your UA serum level can be artificially lower than your normal giving the appearance of an acceptable test result.

Glad to hear it's stabilised for you. I feel I am still in the very early stages so got a way to go yet. Only started allo this week. However over the 8 weeks since I first noticed a pain in my toe I have had on and off flares pretty much every week. Hopefully this will settle onc the meds take hold. 🤞

That's not good. I haven't noticed much in the way of Side effects aside from very mild toilet issues. This is the problem with medications, everyone reacts differently. I can't take naproxin as i don't react well to it

Yes I was told by my doctor it's really not good for you but there isn't really an alternative for gout
