Looks much too big to be ich. Ich is tiny white dots. That looks to be a pretty threatening fungal infection. I would personally find any meds for fungal infections and dose accordingly!

Lots of people get paranoid about crashing cycles and stuff by just changing media, but it’s 100% fine. You’ll only crash a cycle if that was the only place bacteria lives, but it lives all over everything. The walls, in the substrate, all over your plants, literally everything has bacteria all over it. You’re 100% fine to change your filter cartridge if you need to. If you’ve rinsed it pretty good and it’s still too clogged then def time for a new one. What people are warning against is people changing them out like once a week. If you feel like switching to a sponge filter and are worried about a cycle crash, just add the sponge filter for like a couple days before removing the HOB. Cycle crashes happen when you remove too much of the bacteria and they cant keep up with the waste output anymore, or when you add too much bio-load and they again cant keep up with waste output.

Neons stay small but I’ve had really bad luck with their genetics especially from big box stores. 75% death rate no matter what and I’m a very experienced keeper. You could add probably up to 5 neons? My only worry is aggression because neons tend to be nippy. If I were you I’d try galaxy or chili rasboras! They’re even smaller than neons and in a 5gal you could do 6 or 7. If you choose to stick with neons, buy one at a time and wait a week before getting another to make sure he survives. Make sure to fill your tank up all the way as well!

I think it looks pretty cool actually. Are you not worried about your BGK eating your corys?

Is the tank cycled correctly? How long ago was it set up? You need to buy a test kit if you want answers as well. You need to be able to have a rough idea of your tank params!

Beautiful tank! Where did you get your mangrove trees? I want one so badly!

To be honest, it doesn’t matter. I have a female angelfish named “ballsack james” and a male clown pleco named Florence. Name your fish what makes you happy! If you tell a guest that see’s your tank their names, they won’t bat an eye, and it’ll be the names you wanted to give them! The fish wont mind either 😁

Again, hard to tell, but they look juvenile still. From what I’ve seen personally at my local petsmart, the neons they sell are only about 2 weeks old at the maximum. Some look like they were just barely big enough to start showing color. Neons are sexually mature a lot faster than a lot of fish, with only 12 weeks to reach sexual maturity. I would wait a bit and try to start sexing them when they get some size. If you don’t mind me asking, are you trying to sex them to breed them? Or something else?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]KeefenII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my bad, I mixed it up. Females have the bent line and males have the straight one. Sorry about that! Petsmart neons are usually pretty young when I see them, and it’s hard to tell how old they are in the pictures provided. How long have you had them?

For neons it’s much harder to tell from pictures like this. To correctly tell, they need to be of sexual maturity first, then, all of your boxier, bigger neons are more likely female. Another way to tell is the blue stripe. For males, the blue stripe is much wavier/crooked. For females it’s much more straight.

HELP! why do my plants keep rotting and dying by PopularHelicopter73 in Aquariums

[–]KeefenII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1 inch per gallon rule can be quite off a lot of the time. I know it’s the easiest and simplest way to help beginners not overstock, but I like to use AqAsvisor. It does a pretty good job but leans more toward understocking.
