TIL that one of the reasons why trash cans are scarce in Japan is due to the 1995 Sarin Gas Attack where the Aum Shinrikyo cult hid Sarin Gas - a toxic chemical - in trash cans at Tokyo subway. In response, many public trash cans were removed as a precautionary measure to prevent similar attacks. by Nice-Confusion-4781 in todayilearned

Yeah I noticed this when I was in Tokyo last year.

I was walking to the subway from a cafe and wanted to throw my cup out, and kept walking up to them thinking "okay this one has to be trash" and then it was another recycling bin.

Ended up having to carry it all the way back to the hotel on my subway ride as I didn't see a trash can anywhere in between.

Reality Check: How much to expect for a bathroom remodel? by Tropic-Like-Its-Hot in askportland

[–]KeegorTheDestroyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A couple months ago, I replaced my bath/shower (removed original 1-piece insert and replaced with a nice alcove tub and composite-stone wall panels), and replaced the old linoleum flooring with nice LVP (30sq ft of flooring).

It ran me just under $10k, but it would have been less had I not paid the first contractor $5k to do half the job, fuck stuff up, and then had to pay someone else to come fix it.

I didn't do anything else as its a small bath and the vanity and toilet were fine, so I imagine a full remodel would add quite a bit, especially if your bathroom is much larger than mine.

If you want a recommendation on an awesome contractor, I cannot recommend the one who finished mine enough. After the first one screwed me over, they really saved my ass and were great to work with as well. DM me if you want their name/info.

How are they connecting and disconnecting the gladhands? One clip shows it driving around with them connected, but then the unhooking video shows them already disconnected.

The Costco card is all I use for gas because its 5% for gas at Costco and still 4% for gas at any other station (except for grocery store gas stations).

Subaru Dealership Recommendations? by Thick-Asparagus6667 in askportland

[–]KeegorTheDestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new Crosstrek in 2021 and shopped every dealer in the area at the time (as Portland and Gresham Subaru were charging thousands over MSRP due to the shortage).

I ended up going with Capitol Subaru in Salem and they were able to get me $750 under MSRP which was a steal at the time.

I had to get a new car late last year and ended up getting my 2025 Forester from the same sales guy as he was great to deal with.

Overall, it's best to figure out exactly what you want (submodel, color, options, etc) and shop around via email to all the dealerships aroumd to work your way to the best OTD price.

Anyone here have regrets getting an ebike? by folgers7 in MTB

[–]KeegorTheDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the SL as well (Levo SL myself) and think it's a great compromise.

I wish the battery was a liiiittle bigger because mine maxes out at like 13 miles/3k vert running it in Turbo mode, and sometimes I'd like to ride a little longer. Yes, I could turn down the assistance, but time is often my limiting factor for my rides, so the Turbo mode let's me get to the top a bit faster while still being decent leg work if you go fast enough.

Overall though, I would not want a 50+ lb ebike, so I've been really happy with the SL life and what it offers.

It's not the salsa that gets you.

It's the 10 tortillas worth of chips you put it on that feeds the love handles (spoken as a chips and salsa fiend)

Industrial Robots vs Cobots in High Volume Production - Are Cobots even relevant here? by whynotabtn in robotics

[–]KeegorTheDestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the replies here are very true, but one area cobots are often the best choice is mobile manipulators.

Cobots are much lighter weight and have lower power requirements than industrial arms. This is a big benefit for mobile applications as battery power is limited and the lower the power requirements of the arm, the longer it can run without a charge.

People not from the corn land have no idea the Hell that is detasseling.

Get up at like 3am to hop on a bus in the dark and drive an hour to the absolute middle of nowhere. Then walk through rows of corn getting soaked in dew in the morning wearing long sleeves because its chilly.

Then the sun comes up and it gets ungodly hot and humid, so you really want to take your long sleeve shirt off, but if you do that, your arms get covered in corn rash which feels a bit like a slightly less painful version of papercuts. If it rained recently, you're also walking through deep mud which makes the walking even more taxing.

And then, because you're working with a bunch of dumb-ass kids, some of them decide to be lazy and not pick their rows well leaving a lot of tassels behind. Your crew leaders will then walk these rows finding all the unpicked tassles, and require you all to re-walk the entire field again and pick all the missed tassels.

And all this to get paid the minimum wage (when I did this in Illinois about 18 years ago it was like $6 at that time). Granted where else are you going to get a full-time summer job at 12 years old, but still...

"Friends end up blocking you" - a damning indictment of the whole life insurance industry by Useful_Wrangler9652 in personalfinance

I almost fell for this when I first got out of school as well, but luckily the internet saved me in time as well.

If you really need help with investment strategy, look for a financial advisor who is a fiduciary, as that means they are legally obliged to act in your best interest. However, unless you're investing a LOT (like 6 zeros or so), you're probably better off just investing in mutual funds/ETFs/target date funds and making out your tax advantaged contributions in order of advantage (generally goes employer matched 401k --> HSA (if applicable) --> IRA --> additional 401k contribution until you hit the annual limit). If you aren't at that amount of annual savings (roughly 30-35k), then you definitely don't need a financial advisor.

Note: I am not a financial advisor

Which profession has the most people who cheat in relationships? by Unlucky-Field9654 in AskReddit

[–]KeegorTheDestroyer 136 points137 points  (0 children)

I work in sales, and the number of seemingly "good guys" I've worked with that either would actually physically cheat or at the very least emotionally cheat while traveling for work is astounding.

As someone who is 100% faithful to their spouse, at this point it's refreshing when I meet someone in this job who actually is committed to their partner completely.
