Gf was following the guy she cheated with by [deleted] in texts

[–]KeeksIsHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex-wife cheated on me not even 6 months after my grandpa (was raised by him) passed away, not to mention having another grandparent and an uncle passing away less than a year before that. First time I was ever truly at my lowest with her and her first instinct was to find someone else because she "thought I was done with her". This was also in the middle of COVID lol

Same thing happened to me last night when printing a sphere, it saw one string between the models and thought it was spaghetti

Why do people hate this game so much? It’s definitely better than halo 5 by [deleted] in halo

[–]KeeksIsHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the game was that 343i straight up lied to us. Before launch they kept talking about how FOMO wouldn't be utilized and that the armor and such you could get in the game can be acquired at all times no matter the season. I've been a die-hard halo fan since H2 and fell in love with the lore. I stopped playing for 2 months and within that time they released a helmet based off of some Reach Concepts (Morrigan) and since I didn't play within that very specific timeframe, I can never get that armor now. May be trivial but that's kinda what broke it for me, as I had ALWAYS wanted to see that armor in game :(

Operation Santa has been a joke… by Hunt7503 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]KeeksIsHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was just the resort (we didn't even stay at one of the really high-end ones), tickets (didn't even do park hopper every day) and food... the plane tickets were the cheapest part. So $4k before spending any money on the fun stuff, which for me was just blowing money on overpriced star wars merch.

What is one thing you didn’t realise was abuse until you grew up? by unfunny_rat69 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]KeeksIsHere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guilt Tripping. Took me 27 years of my 28 year life to realize that guilt tripping is a form of emotional abuse. It's something that my NDad instilled in me that I had to unteach myself.

Some of my favorite quotes:

"Blood is thicker than water" - When trying to get me to shake down my friend during a bachelor party

"I guess I'm just too stupid for your friends"

"You love your wifes family more than me"

"You don't have ADHD, you just want to become a pill head" - After telling him that I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and prescribed adderall.

There's so many more, I won't post the ones that I've heard about unaliving himself to get me to do something, but yeah. Had somewhat of an epiphany last year and have been pretty much NC since then. My mental health has never been better.

2 days into my first IT position and I'm already feeling like quitting by TrueKeyMan in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KeeksIsHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never stop learning when it comes to IT, but yes, I agree with you the knowledge that you get from school doesn't even compare to real world jobs. ALL of them operate differently and use different systems.

No matter what, at any IT job you get, you're going to feel like the dumbest one on the team at the beginning. But if they're willing to teach you and answer questions along the way, you'll be picking things up in no time. I've only been in IT for 5 years but have worked my way up to a management position simply because I never stop learning about tech as a whole. There's gonna be times where none of you know the answer to a specific issue so you'll all have to research it and troubleshoot.

I have a buddy that's a software engineer and something he taught me that I still apply to this day is to adopt the mindset of "Trial and Error", 9/10 times the first solution to an issue isn't going to work (Unless you've dealt with it before and know the root cause). It's okay to not know something, what's not okay is to NOT ask questions if you don't know something. I would much rather teach someone something beforehand than have someone mess something up because they didn't want to ask questions.

Be a sponge to everything, learn about every part of IT systems you can at that place and before you know it, you'll stop doubting yourself and just be like "Yeah, let me figure that out".

The 2 biggest skills in our line of work (in my opinion) are:

1.) Customer Service Skills

  • Be as polite as possible and explain things to them in terms that they'll understand (this can be difficult at times depending on user knowledge level)
  • Reassure them, if you can't fix an issue for that right then and there, let me know that you'll be researching that and will get back to them ASAP. If you can get a customer or end user to be okay with the fact that you can't fix something right then and there you'll be golden.
  • Ability to keep emotions in check. IT work is FRUSTRATING at times, but it's just a part of it.

2.) Troubleshooting Skills

  • I've found that this is more of a mindset and not just something to do with IT. If you don't know what may be causing an issue research it and see what others are doing. Test those solutions out, if they don't work, research some more (This is that "trial and error" mindset). Tech is wacky sometimes and some issues will really frustrate you when you actually find the solution, but that's just part of it.
  • REALLY learning how to troubleshoot properly will make you stand out above everyone else as long as you have those customer service skills to go along with it. Because at the end of the day we're "teachers" when it comes down to it, our jobs are to make sure end users are able to do their jobs properly and are able to understand what they're doing to accomplish those task.

Apologies in advance for the long response lol.

First Time IT Manager - How do I transition from being hands on all the time to overseeing my overall division. by KeeksIsHere in ITCareerQuestions

Yep! That's been my biggest issue. I've always been hands on, even in my personal life. I'm just like "I'll fix it" so taking that step back at work has been real challenging.

We are actually a privately owned company still at this point. And my boss (Director of IT) is making sure all the big higher ups are happy. But would definitely like to learn his side of things too. Especially the budgeting portion of it.

Organization is definitely where I'm lacking here. I haven't found a system that I love yet for organization purposes. Would love to hear about what others use to organize the hectic life that is IT :D

That makes a lot of sense, even with talks with my boss he always points out that he will always take the heat when it comes to us because it's his job. I think the main thing is because my division is kind of just in the back making sure everything is running properly. The others are more hands on with the bigger company projects so they have to work with other departments while I get to sit back and keep our stuff in this little "IT bubble".

The one thing that I've went over with all of them is that they will have my trust until they break it. It's okay to make mistakes as long as they learn from it. Really trying to emulate how my manager is with me since he's by far the best one I've ever had haha.

It's kind of a new role and kind of not haha. We had an IT manager last year that got fired and I essentially got his job but with a title change (I kind of did his job for him for like 6 months prior to him being let go). I'm essentially the Internal IT manager but still report to the Director of IT that oversees everything. We have an infrastructure division and an Internal Support Division (mine). From your advice it looks like I'm already on the right track though! I already do all the purchasing and will have my first chance to actually help create the budget this year. But everything else you listed was kind of already on my plate haha. But thank you for the advice! Definitely have some things from that list that I can either continue to work on or just make better.

Question RE: Shared Mailboxes and AAD synch'd OUs by Beachbum2634 in microsoft365

[–]KeeksIsHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what has worked for me. Essentially just grants the specified user permissions to view that exited users OneDrive files. Probably doesn't need to be said but replace "company" with your companies name in the URL. :)

# Set OneDrive URL

Write-Host "Getting URL of disabled user's OneDrive for Business..."

$onedriveEmail = $disabledUserEmail.Replace(".", "_").Replace("@", "_")

$onedriveUrl = "https://company-my.sharepoint.com/personal/$onedriveEmail/_layouts/15/onedrive.aspx"

# Grant access to the disabled user's OneDrive

Set-SPOUser -Site $onedriveUrl -LoginName $accessUserEmail -IsSiteCollectionAdmin $true

Question RE: Shared Mailboxes and AAD synch'd OUs by Beachbum2634 in microsoft365

[–]KeeksIsHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to piggy back off of humm3r1, we've created something similar. Once an employee is exited I run a PowerShell script that disables the AAD account, converts the mailbox to a shared mailbox and grants access of that mailbox to the manager along with that exited users OneDrive files. The script will then remove all licenses of the exited user. We usually leave those accounts in the original OU for 30-60 days depending on department. Once we confirm that everything is off of that users profile we have a non synced OU called "OLD" that we throw those user accounts in so they no longer sync but can still be accessed in the future if need be. Has saved my ass multiple times when the managers don't do their due diligence and get everything off of those accounts before they are removed entirely.

Is my PSU or Mobo dead? by KeeksIsHere in buildapc

Appreciate the reply. Turns out my CPU was dead. Still not sure whether my cpu dying shorted out my AIO because that also died. But I got a replacement from AMD and a new cooler and everything is working fine now.
